Back from the dead thread. I asked for some help with my own thread but no advice so took it in and tech at my indy. They advised me I needed to replace same lower steering u-joint getting it all fixed tomorrow. If anyone else has the symptoms of a binding wheel 1/4 turn at a time this is the fix. Maybe I should have named my thread "problems with stance "probably would have gotten hundreds of responses lol.

Had this problem when I first got my car -- Indy shop put it on a lift and knocked some dirt off the joint -- that was 5 years ago and now it's back...

Back from the dead but just had this occur on my 2007 335xi. I thought it was just from the cold weather but continued as we had a few days of warmth. As you turn the wheel either way, it would be free from 12 o'clock to 1 o'clock, tighten up from like 2-3 and continue that pattern.

dropped off at indy shop today and sure enough, lower u-joint seized up

Started experiencing this with my 335is on Sunday. Im wondering if WD40 would be a temp solution for this. Had anyone tried?

Also, how much should one expect to pay on a job like this?

Some people have had good luck with lubricant sprays (of which WD40 is NOT an example). Thing is, to get the spray on there effectively, you have to get direct access to the joint by removing the charge pipe. At which point you may as well replace the shaft and be done with it.
It's a pretty easy DIY; the shaft is about $350.
