My front differential is f*cked !!
My car was making vibrating noises from the the front so I took it into a local indy shop and they told me the front differential needs replacing.
The part number in question is 31507575785. They also said my oil pan was leaking. So total cost including the oil leak is $4K I'm fairly confident I've spent more on repairs than the current value of the car itself. |

DIY it or find mechanics who will do it for less. Oil pan can be done easier in some ways.
Front diff can be bought used, if low mileage and oil changed at 60k miles, etc. both can be done DIY if you can rent garage with 2 post lift |

I blew an axle boot awhile back, did both front axles, front diff seals and an oil pan gasket for a little over 3k. might want to take a hard look at all the things that touch those parts being removed while you are in there. Axles, wheel bearings and such. Buy once cry once. |

How much would a new comparable car cost? $700/ mo? Sounds like you're looking at ~6mos of payments. Seems like upgrading to a new version of what I have is $80k. Economics keep stopping me from moving on, even with big hits like my transfer case last year. I ended up just doing the clutch while i was in there, and figured manual AWD cars aren't being made anymore, so i got a new factory one. The annual burden with a car I've customized to a fare-the-well, is a fraction of what it'd take to have this handling and HP, and still needing tweaks. My BAD year was still way easier than a new S5, or better, an RS5 or 440, and I still get stick + awd. |

Yeah I just bought mine today and it makes soft inaudible thud on the front end right before you come to a stop at low speed. I'm not sure if its normal or not. Waiting for posting permissions to write about it. Can't seem to search on it. I'm assuming its doing something to disengage the torque converter or something happening in the crank case. It shifts and works perfectly fine w/ no codes.
It's always good to make good friends with a Euro tech as I did before I even bought it because I just knew I'd be seeing him a lot lol (not charging labor since I contribute to a motorcycle club). Going in for a trans and transfer fluid change ASAP. Its at 112k so i'm getting all that out of the way now. |

Remove the front driveshaft. It'll drive fine as rwd until you can save for it
