Ditching Logic 7 - Good Option?

Ok, my new to me car is a 2013 335is E93 with HK Logic 7 without Nav and/or iDrive. I’ve spent countless hours researching options to update the head unit to a double DIN with modern connectivity and such.

I also talked to some local car audio shops in town (Birmingham, AL) and one recommended totally ditching the Logic 7 system and replacing with new HU, amp and speakers.

The Chinese units don’t really interest me so I’m now sticking to Kenwood, Pioneer, Alpine, etc. as options.

Need to hear from the experts in BMW audio please. My main goals are to get modern technology and connectivity (Apple CarPlay), keep a somewhat OEM appearance and retain OEM functionality, like steering wheel controls, etc.

My head’s spinning……help me out! Thanks in advance.

head unit with features is a separate issue from quality sound.

There are many dsp/amp with multichannels now .
Audiotech Fisher 86 dsp and up are commonly used here.
BMW 7 by the same company has some good specs.
Audiotech Fisher also makes some compatible speakers.

Jehnert Speakers for under seats XE-200's are really good.

Bimmertech has some upgrades . NBT EVO is the OEM upgrade.

Also https://www.mr12volt.com/collections...-interface-dsp

Head Units are all over the place from super cheap to pretty expensive.
Chinese units seem to have some reliability and support problems.

So if I ditch Logic 7 and go with a complete custom system, are there any downstream issues of removing the factory head unit relative to the rest of the car? It’s a 2013, so I’m not overly concerned with dealer connectivity / future updates, but could it be something that would negatively affect the car?

Budget

It’s not unlimited, but I’m not restricted by budget either. My order of “importance” is;

1 - Modern Double DIN Head Unit with connectivity, CarPlay, etc. I’m going to go with either Pioneer, Alpine or Kenwood.
2 - Retain OEM look and functionality for steering wheel controls, etc.
3 - Add back-up camera - probably easiest part of project!
4 - Good sound quality, not looking for competition level hi-fi

If I can achieve that while keeping Logic 7, that’d be great, but I’m not sure I can.

I'd try the BavSound speakers. I had that in my previous e90 with L7 and LOVED it.

Or I'll trade you my bimmertech pp86dsp for your L7 retrofit lol

These cars have been around for over a decade so any reputable installer with experience on the EXX vehicles will be able to install a double DIN with faceplate and an interface for steering wheel controls. With a DSP amp, decent speakers, and some tuning, you'll be quite pleased. Audison has some good underseat drop-ins.
