The car is pretty much already certified as the M4 with slightly different body work. Audi Sold out their Hot Wagon here and as does Mercedes.

Offer it in limited numbers the price alone supports that. Audi sold their's and so did Mercedes.

It will use the S58 from the manual M3/M4 tuned to 560hp.

3.0 CSL will be produced for just a few months starting 11/22. It will be mostly configured like the M4 CSL but with manual transmission, several options (comfort access, parking sensors, electric seats) deleted, and original forged wheels in 20" front 21" rear sizes. It will not be available in the US.

It's hard for me to believe this might well just be a rumor.
The halo car from BMW using one of the most iconic name and it's not even equipped with basic options and not for US. ? Sorry I just don't believe this.

JMO, but it is a real issue. Porsche has the same problem with their GT cars.
I get it, but if these are indeed fully hand-built, scaling for mass production isn't feasible. I would love to see one driven daily, but you're right, these will all get locked away and driven very infrequently.

It's not even a particularly unique car. You can buy a base m4, have a very reputable shop go to town on it, and still have enough money left over for a 911 gt3 and x7 alpina…
Yeah, I know my meager earnings will never accrue enough for me to get one, it would still be fun to see it at car shows and what not though.

It bums me out, just like us not getting the Mercedes One.

I mean I guess I will drive it in Gran Turismo one day, thats almost as fun, right?

...right?

For those looking for more insider details on what this car is and what may be special about it. I suggest a run through of this earlier thread with additional insider information into what the plans are for this vehicle

Don't worry Europe are most excellent at flipping...and will allow others to appreciate at a ridiculous cost; may even export to NA for further expensive admiring

Unless you are on the inner circle, I hate limited halo cars that will be investment cars

Drive them dammit; soon you won't be allowed to

It's not a question of driving the car but of the car being purchased by a true fan of the brand vs a guy who's looking to make a quick buck on a flip.

Iirc this occurred in the US with the release of the M4 GTS.

I'm going to be happy we got an M4 CSL. All the people this upset it's not coming to the US, should have a garage of at least 10+ rare M cars and an M4 CSL on order also. If not, stop complaining about something you would never be buying.

The only thing that's sad is we won't be able to see it here on some sort of a press tour.

BMW and BMW North America continues to be on their bullsh*t. They really know how to take the "j" out of joy.
If I could order smth like the mille miglia concept form 2008 or smth, i would in a heartbeat, though surely it will be out of reach for me as theyd ask 200k for it. Still, coach building is the way to go for these rare cars down the road and we have come full circle in 100 years.

Audi and Mercedes had their wagons certified as ordinary A6 and E-Class wagons. That means the wagon body style for those cars were already federalized—

The G81 is NOT an M4 when it comes to federalization—so it requires full crash testing as a wagon—which has pretty much a 0% chance of happening.

At this point it is virtually impossible for the M3 Wagon to come here—no petition will change that.

It's the unfortunate reality of how effective low-volume halo cars are for brand building. Look at the LFA, Carrera GT, Ford GT, etc.

However, it's a common myth that Porsche does it with GT cars. The data shows it's actually skyrocketing demand vs limited production. Production is not limited, and Porsche produced 3x 991 GT cars vs 997 (unheard of for $150K+ sports car).

Porsche even intentionally screwed over flippers with 911R by secretly adding a manual to 991.2. 911R prices plummeted over night. No other OEM has done that.

I do think the huge GT demand is interesting. I think it's because everyone else stopped producing NA manual cars. I wish other OEMs took note and build similar cars.

To tag onto this there was a lot of info shared by insiders months ago when the wagon was first tipped by M.

Basically bmw made a design decision on the G21 knowing it was not headed for the us market that directly violates a US safety guideline. So the cost to bring to the US would be both the us market testing AND the vehicle layout redesign to meet us market standard. So millions of dollars against a few units for the US from a total run of ~1000ish M cars

For reference the old threads can be dug up but as I read it: the issue was how bmw located the battery, per the letter of us regulations it counts as being "in" the passenger compartment and poses a hazard during an accident.

The same scenario likely applies to the 3.0 CSL, as insiders have noted the car is almost certainly using the race car version of the chassis and that is probably different enough that it counts as a different car and would need redesign and special testing…. Not worth it for an ultra low production collectors car they are only making ~50? examples
