Easy if you know what your doing and saves a bit of money , but because your using the baseplate it's still doable but you may need some pins or some old cable with the already on.

I couldn't believe the cost of the pins here in the uk , something like £1 each and when you start to calculate how many pins you need for the combox connector etc it starts to get silly for a few pins.

Also where you get $100 from ? I've looked around and you only need 1 cable @ $25
thanks, well. I saw that I need one cable (3 wires) from the aux/usb to cic, and another cable (3 wires) from the aux/usb to my combox. So that's 2 cables at 24$ a piece I think. Then I saw the diagram above, showing 3 wires from the snap-in to the cic.. (same as the aux/usb to cic?)

Little confusing.. I may just install as is and do it some other time

I'm thinking about parting together a CIC retrofit like you did, but I'm starting to wonder if the hassle vs cost savings isn't worth it? How much money do you have wrapped up in this? Also I'm thinking of maybe going NBT as I believe the combox is built in?

So far almost at 3000$ and not installed yet or coded yet. It depends how important all this is to you. I'm a geek so being connected and having the gizmos is important to me

nice work so far jezzy with the pics....

I cant help you with the Sirius retrofit but I will say the 3 attenna cables in your hand in one of the pics went into my tcu unit. I don't think they are for Sirius radio (but I could be wrong). The white one will go to the combox but you will have to cut a small piece from the connector on the combox. you will see when you come to connect it.

I also found the pinout for the aux audio out from the baseplate.

pin 3 - aux out left
pin 4 - aux ground
pin 12 -aux out right

I will update my pic...

awesome! I still haven't been able to spend that kind of money on the wiring for that aux mod. =( Perhaps I'll just get the pins necessary and find extra wiring somewhere.

Jezzy I'm curious as to why the troubles of retrofitting a Sat-Tuner when the CIC unit has this feature. Correct me if I am wrong on this. Is it that the head unit you have the Euro version?

So, i got my retrofit done this morning.. well, done's the wrong word. Its installed and running, but for the life of me, i can't get NCS working.. I was able to previously see my VIN with my CCC unit, etc.. so was able to do some custom coding.

Now.. it won't see my VO or VIN, and well. Now stuck! I can't code my CIC for my car.. navi, voice control, radio and mp3 all work at least..

Any ideas guys?

ref the ncs problem, have you tried driving your car 10 minutes or so then letting it sleep for half hour or so and try again?

reboot computer? re-plug coding cable? plug your cable into a different usb port?

Update to come tonight

Edit:

Okay. Once I turned it all on. Navigation works. Bluetooth showed up and phone did too. Once I did a #0909 on the cas the options disappeared. So I'll need to re-add them again. I added the code for e91 so the car info screen works fine.

I'll update once kids are in bed and write down the listed vo.

Once that's up. Review the most connections.

Combox is plugged in with a modified USB cable. What a pain to ass to run a cable from Center console to the trunk. I passed it over the carpet just for testing purposes. Combox is plugged in with the adaptor plug. I tried both USB plugs but as far as I got with time today.

I also added my Bluetooth antenna today. Black wire with a
Pink plug. Same as the one in the arm rest that the snap in uses. The blue snap in USB runs to the combox with that modified cable.

Voice control is much improved over the ccc one. Maps are lovely too. Mine date from 2009 so need updating too. I pulled out the 7 digit code with tools32 for the fsc code if required.

I'm currently using my ccc controller. Works fine!

This is my FA :

E91_#0911&KAB4%0475$1CA$203$205$249$255$2CZ$354$38 6$402$431$441$464$481$494$4AB$502$520$521$522$524$ 534$544$548$563$5GA$609$620$640$645$655$676$6FL$6N F$6NR$818$823$838$845$850$853$876$896$925*VT13-B090

I've got the Daten files v52 for the E89 platform.

I've changed my VO year to 09/11, and TRIED adding 614, 614, 644, -IPOD, -KMP3 but without success. the same error appears :

coapi error -1181 =(

I'm only trying to code my CAS at the moment.. I haven't done any "code entire car" yet.

Just a pointer , no need to code entire car, might be problematic.

You only need to code cic, combox and then kombi if the vehicle info isn't correct

I think you will also need $6va $6vc and $6nl I don't see them in your vo

this could be why you cant put in $614 $615 as $6va is for cic and $6vc is for combox

Thanks. I'll try it again right now. Anyone do remote coding? pm me! I'd love to get some help. ($) =)

Anyhoo, I've tried and tried again. Each time I code the car and return, the values have disappeared. Now tell me if I'm doing it wrong.

I add the item to the VO $6VA for example.. i click back, I then select the ECU I want to write the VO too, i select CIC, select SG_CODIEREN, it says job done, my CIC reboots, and nothing ever changes (no additions).

I did notice when I click "process ECU", it shows CIC.C08 then changes to CIC.C13 once it starts to write. Perhaps my CIC firmware is too cold to take some of these options?

So i called bimmerretrofit who is 10mins from my house, they can only do remote coding for an Eseries car.. but if I need firmware updates, an OPS cable is required.. so remote coding is out of the question?

Anyway, guru's ! fun adventure.. but looking forward to getting the remaining snap-in to combox / combox to usb/aux cables in and perhaps FBAS cables too.

I had a brain fart, think my emulator is blocking me from updating my VO? Should i remove it ?
It's a hot 35'c in the car today, parked in the sun trying to code.. not too enjoyable!

ok here goes on how to change / modify VO

file - load profile - choose expert mode - press ok

press f2 choose chassis - then choose chassis of your car - click ok

click f6 back

click f1 vin/zcs/fa

press f2 enter fa

choose chassis for your car click ok

pop up box with your vin in there - click ok

enter what you want to change in the box and click add

when finished click ok

press f6 back

press f4 process ecu

choose cas - press ok

press f2 change job - select FA Write - click ok

then lastly f3 execute job

you only change the vehicle order in the cas and frm module. you possibly will not be able to change the vehicle in the frm as it will not accept the date as your frm is too old......I have the same problem but it will not affect the cic or combox.

the emulator will not cause any problems regarding coding....

do you have a programme called team viewer? I can try and help you remotely
