Hello, fellow E90posters from South Africa.

I'm considering moving to South Africa.. I have a potentially awesome job offer there

Questions:

- What's cost of living like, compared to the US? What would the equivalent of say, a $120k USD salary be in SA? How much is a new Bimmer in SA?

- How safe is it? Specifically in Jo'burg? How safe are the 'safe' areas, especially for women?

Would be very similiar if you live in SA. I think vehicle here is quite expensive compared to the rest of the world due to the goverment protecting the local car manufacture industry.

A BMW 330i with auto exclusive pack will be in the region of $45 000 US working in a R10 / $1 exchange rate.

Difficult to comment on salary.

It is safe in SA, but one has to be alert at all times. Also depends where you settle. Here in Cape Town things are quite normal but people are very aware of the dangers and crime.

Overall such a lovely country - would recommend it

Cheers

Great.
No sports bumper. Just the exclusive pack.
I have a look at a 335i Sports Package that was been delivered after mine. I not sure I like what they did with the fog lights. Looks like it is on stalks.

Must say that the ride quality is far better than my 325. Only thing I regret is not putting comfort access on. I had it on the 325 and thought I would not miss it (+ save R5K). I was wrong.

I think the new iDrive is much better. Screen resolution is much better, DVD playback when parked, hard drive for music is great and it is easier to get to functions, especially with the 8 favorites button. Controller is much better. Night mode is actually quite useful for the navigation.
If you take the pro nav you are forced to take voice control as well (added another R3500 to the price). I was a bit peeved at first but now am really enjoying it, although I still feel a bit weird having a conversation with my car
Unfortunately for destination input you have to spell the destination (city, street, etc) out in letters and cannot just say the name (or at least I cannot get it to work). At least I can now search for points of interest without having to know the city.

Only thing I do not like is the voice dialing on the bluetooth. In the 325 I could say 'Dial name' and then the name (after having said 'Save Name' to store them).
In the new one you need to say phonebook, wait for the women to ask what name, and then say the name. Takes a bit longer.
