This one is likely just for maps
I wonder if connected drive FSCs follow a similar release date pattern ?

It is for maps. Connected drive is a whole new different ball game.

Connected drive works with either a TCU or an ATM box ( depending on the version of NBT you have )

If your car's VIN did not come with connected drive services from the BMW factory, your only option is to find an ATM module from a donor vehicle and use it. However, you will definitely need to change the VIN on the NBT to match the ATM. You will also need to use an emulator to prevent the NBT from locking itself when the NBT detects a difference in the car's VIN.

Yes, you will need an FSC to unlock the connected drive services, however, some have been able to tether their phone to the NBT and setup provisioning by tricking the NBT.

Retrofits are becoming very difficult now and almost not worth it, due to BMW tightening their security following the hack by two engineers into a Dodge. I posted a pdf on this. Search for it if you're interested...

CIC uses a Combox with apps. I guess you could call it BMW's earlier version of Connected Drive Services.

The keygen linked does not create FSCs for other features, as BMW signs enabling codes with their own private RSA key.

However, Intel123 has discovered a method to replace the Root key on the CIC. This allows you to place a new Root key on the CIC, where you have the Private key, allowing you to create your own FSCs.

This means you can enable all of the CIC features without any extra cost

Code:
0017 - Voice control
0019 - Navigation system Professional
001B - Navigation system Professional
00XX - LifeTime Map Code
006F – Satellite Tuner
009B – Arabian Language
009C - BMW Apps

If I can figure out which pin type to use, I'm thinking about just hardwiring an Ethernet cable into the 12 pin connector on the back of the CIC and just running it into my glove box. It's either 61130005197 or 61130006663...

The pins for the FBAS connectors were the same as the combox ones I know cos I used them the other day

Correct, and for those reasons I suggest you to concentrate on other areas of the install. Get the patcher software, get the carserver files, get the fstool software so you can activate the Navigation. But first get NCS/INPA to check the update version and Tool32 to change the VIN

I'm putting everything together with a pre-wired emulator to get going at first and updating maps if need be.

Probably will dupe the drive at that point to a SSD.

After that and I get a bit more comfortable with coding / programming / adapting in the car, I'll start experimenting.

At least that is my general plan currently....

feuer :

go here, and download the ECU and EDIABAS zip files.

You were correct. You don't need $693 in your VO, but you need $655

If you have the SDARS module, you will need to remove it from the car as the CIC ( US version ) has the SDARS tuner built in. You will also need to do the following:

1. Terminate old SDARS unit MOST connection
2. Route SDARS aerial directly into the back of the CIC

Not all CIC have the SDARS module built it, the earlier production dates of 2009 still used the SDARS module in the back up until i believe a year or so later.
My version of CIC is using SDARS module in the back in my e90

I have 2012 CIC and it has built-in SDAR so anees is probably correct, I will have to remove old unit from the truck. I will address that when I do the Combox retrofit. Now I only have TCU. I will have to bring the question about the USB. Do I need the USB hub? Also, any info on the instalation?

You actually do not need to remove the SDARS module. Code CIC to use external module. Thats if you want to keep satellite radio anyway. Otherwise you'll need new antenna wiring from CIC.

The USB hub is not needed unless you are super OCD about it.

I assume I can make the change in NCS, correct? Im not OCD at all. Just want to make it work properly. Any info you could offer on installation without USB hub?

Certainly would need to make changes to in NCS. I'll edit this post as soon as I can find the actual keywords to change in CIC. Edit: key parameter to look for is SDARS_IN_EXBOX. you'll change "inbox" to "exbox". Ie. Inbox is internal Sdars and exbox is external Sdars to CIC. See snippet I grabbed from NCS Dummy below.

Installation is basically taking the USB Fakra cable straight from the Combox to center console aux USB port. In my E90 I removed rear seats and ran Aux and usb under seat padding then under carpeting along the side of drive shaft hump then up through carpeting right by the airbag module.

The correct way would mean running separate power from junction box and you'd need two fakra usb cables. This would involve taking out front seat and carpeting to place USB Hub and cabling below. I believe it should be in a water resistant sealed casing as well.

I did the same. Ran GPS, AUX and USB exactly the same like you. AUX and USB aren't connected yet because I haven't done the Combox retrofit yet. I also have the phone cradle that wanted to use for video streaming but Aus335iguy showed us an alternative so I won't pursue phone cradle installation I think.
