I see here that most of the people here use Nero to burn there cd's to make the names of the songs appear. anyways can you make the song title of the song show up on I drive using windows media player and how?

I burn with windows media player all the time and don't have any issues getting the titles showing up... just make sure they are there in the media player in the 1st place. If they are not there, you can go to the advanced tag editor and add the artist title and song name. Then, burn the cd in either data or high mat format.

I use burnatonce. Its freeware, 200k to download and burns ISO1999:2000 without capitals and with spaces with full info on Nav screen.

so if i ordered the navi & idrive if i burn a cd using Windows Media Player it will show song tags?
but then it needs to be MP3/DATA?

the past BMW's I have had w.navigation dont come with a CD player.. is the e92 different?

^ to answer your first question - YES. I do it all the time and it works fine. It even shows two lines of data on the idrive screen when it's playing that song.

Nero OEM version (that came with your CD/DVD writer) would not work. Only the full version of Nero can be set to write correctly. Otherwise it will still work, but it will display something like "SONG_TITLE" or "SONG TITLE". If written correctly it will display "Song title"

How do you get to the advanced tag editor????

Advanced tag editor -- right-click on a song.

I don't do a lot of MP3 CDs because the song titles are not listed unless the song is playing. The other titles are the eight-character truncated, all caps version of the actual filename. So my list looks something like this in the iDrive screen:

| The Best of What's Around [this song highlighted and playing]

DAV_0006
...

This sucks to try to navigate through and pick a song. I guess it would be a little better if when you highlight songs that aren't playing, it would show the actual title and artist, but it only shows it if it is playing. Am I doing something wrong? Is that how it works for everyone?

That only happens to me when I play in the in-dash, in the trunk cd changer it shows the whole thing. I have no idea why.

I'll try to figure out my settings to do this correctly. I was just burning a data CD with Windows Explorer. I haven't tried burning with Windows Media Player yet, can it do ASCII Joliet/ISO? I don't think WMP can make folders, though, so that's one reason I haven't used it. I've never tried Roxio but I guess that's the program of choice?

And to be clear -- I don't have a trunk CD changer. This is with the in-dash CD player. I guess I'm not the only one with this issue.

Another thing that bugs me, both with audio CD and MP3, is that if I have "shuffle" on and select another song while one is playing, it defaults back to "sequential" -- i.e., shuffle turns off. I wish shuffle would stay turned on.

EDIT - oops, not "Roxio," I guess "Nero" is the one that gets mentioned a lot. I haven't tried it yet.

These are done using iTunes on PC, placed in folders by artists, albums and then songs

I wish all posters of their successes (or even problems) would supply pics to show actual results. Makes it far easier to understand.

I've discovered recently that burning it in Nero Mode 1 in 9660:1999 will display the whole title to the limit of the screen, then it puts '...' to indicate it's longer than whats displayed. BUT discs burned in a such a manner won't even be recognized in the cd changer, so for those I burn in ISO 9660 + Joliet with ASCII like the general recommendation indicates and just contend with a shorter title limit.
