Bmw Online- any opinions ?

Thinking of getting my New 335i coupe software updated to enable it to use BMW online.I've made enquires and they have quoted me - it would take a technician 1 to 2 hours to update the cars software.
Has anyone else got this feature ? and is it usefull ?
I was going to order it with the car originaly but my dealer advised against it.
He cited the fact that I could use teletext to get similar information from the TV function ........ but unlike my 4 year old 330 Ci the new TV doesn't have teletext

It can be useful. You can read a restaurant review and then have the satnav find the restaurant just to give one example. You can read news and e-mail as well.

I wish it were available in the States.

Now I know why it's not available in the U.S. Reading email while driving... that's JUST what we need!

They could run it so that none of the wheels can be rotating in order for the screen to be displayed.

Lexus and Infiniti allow DVD video playback on some models provided that the parking brake is applied, I've seen how easy it is to circumvent on the freshalloy boards, but if BMW isn't even willing to apply that particular technology with certain safety restrictions, I don't have much hope for BMW Online here in North America

Out of interest, does anyone have a photo of what BMW Online looks like on the screen?

Actually, just came out of a mtg w/BMW NA about BMW Online and other telematics projects and I think we'll see something in a few years when high-speed wireless becomes available.

A few features related to BMW Online may become available earlier, like the ability to send a destination to the car from the Web (as of last month's production, the Concierge service can download this info if you call them using the "concierge" softkey)
