How long does it take for your car to boot?
I've noticed that it takes 2-3 minutes for the computers to come online until all the systems work after starting the car. The stereo will come on but I can't access any of the idrive functions or make a phone call. Has anyone else notice this? Once the computer finish booting everything works great.

30-45 sec, but some time is 10 sec
Few times (with 10 sec boot) I can't do any selection thru iDrive, but voice command is work and I just say 'Navigation' to get to Navy screen.

Mine usually takes about 10 seconds, but occasionally takes upwards of 30 seconds. One thing I wondered was whether or not the PDC will beep if the IDrive screen isn't booted up yet?

If I have the car off for more than an hour it takes about 25 to 30 seconds to boot. If I park somewhere, go into a store and come back out within 20 minutes, iDrive takes about 10 to 15 seconds to load but sometimes it has been finished loading in under 5 seconds. I was shocked when it loaded that fast and has actually done it a few times. If only it booted in 5 seconds every time.

I have CA, and I think iDrive starts booting as soon as I unlock the door, or maybe after unlock and opening a door. I am not sure if it's the same with non-CA cars. I throw my briefcase in the back seat each morning. I can hear the nav disk spinning up when the door is opened.
I have found that when I unlock, open the rear door, put the briefcase in -- basically when I take a few seconds before I get in and start the car, iDrive boots IMMEDIATELY (the lawyer "accept" screen appears immediately). If I unlock, jump in and press start, the BMW logo screen is on iDrive for a few seconds before the "accept" screen pops up. Once I accept the lawyer screen, everything is quick. Sometimes, if I go to nav immediately, it takes a few seconds. Otherwise, it's quick. Maybe the OP's issue is related to a slow Bluetooth integration with his phone? Although, the rest of my iDrive is up and running even if BT is still in the process of synching, so I don't know.

Mine somtimes boots in about 10 secs but most of the time these days seems to be taking nearly a minute. This seems to be normal judjing by the above posts, but i just cant see what the variable is that makes it boot quickly sometimes.

I generally stick the key in the slot, push the clutch, and then the start button, all in quick succession. I've had occasion where the lawyer screen appeared before the car started first thing in the morning. On two other occasions it never booted to the lawyer screen during the entire 20-30 minute drive to work. And on a single occasion it booted fine but then autonomously rebooted and took several minutes to stabilize. I figure it was just getting me back for the quickie boots.

You can read about radio readiness. It means that the devices goes to sleep mode. Microprocessors these days all have sleep mode. The devices such as bluetooth, CCC, body electronics turns off after a predermined time in order to save battery time. During sleep mode it draws a couple uA.
Radio readiness refers to the time after you turn off your car and even lock it while the electronics are still awake. This could be a couple of minutes. If you get back in your car, I-drive should be available almost immediately. After this period all the devices goes to sleep and will go through a restart sequence. So, depending on the situation and what you have installed. it may take different times to have all the devices initialised. It also depends on what version of software you have. Remember that some devices may "wait" for a response from other devices before continuing initialisation sequence. Mine takes about 60-90 seconds for everything to work. Voice control takes the longest.
