Prior to the start of today's Indy 500, fans finally got to see the long-awaited Team Hot Wheels world-record jump attempt. The mystery "Yellow Driver" piloted specially-prepared truck down the 90-foot ramp that had been under construction in the Indianapolis Motor Speedway's infield over the last several weeks. The neat gimmick behind Hot Wheels' "Fearless at the 500" event was that the launch ramp itself was built to simulate that orange track we all grew up with, hung from a giant 10-story door. Talk about pandering to a guy's inner child...

Anyhow, the stunt itself was a success, and fans at the Brickyard watched the truck sail, ramp-to-ramp, 332 feet through the air, setting a world record for four-wheeled vehicles in the process. Upon landing, the mystery driver doffed his helmet to reveal himself as American Top Gear host Tanner Foust. If you want to see the jump yourselves, be advised that ABC will air the stunt at 3:30 PM Eastern time today, following the conclusion of its Indy 500 race coverage. It was an amazing jump, but Hot-wheels made the entire show so cheesy and ridiculous!

That was so awesome, I watched it after the 500 but I was wondering who the driver was. That's pretty crazy it was Tanner, not sure why, I just didn't expect it to be him.

Here's the entire Hot Wheels Special. It's literally a guy holding his video camera on the couch, but good enough.
I LOVED Hot Wheels when I was a kid. This is exactly they type of things we'd think up. I was at Toys 'R Us over the weekend picking up some gifts for my nephew and of course went to check out the Hot Wheels cars (my nieces love playing with them too). I almost fell over when I was the orange track I loved so much as a kid!!!! They are 18" long pieces of track and your imagination is the only limiting factor. I bought 50 pieces on the spot. I blew by my wife to get a cart and she was like where are you going. All I had to say was they have orange track and she knew. I've been looking for this stuff for years. They only had those crappy little tracks that went in a circle. Now I can run the cars from upstairs to downstairs and include turns, loops and jumps.
