wheel alignment required?
Hi Guys,
I have had a quick search but Im not really sure what im looking for.... let me explain. I have normal 225 x 17 bridgestone RFT's and the near side front is worn on the outside edge, noticebly more than the other 3 tyres, i have only had the car a couple of months and it has 14k on the clock is this normal or should i have the tracking looked at? and this is where i am struggling as I think i have read somewhere on this forum about tracking being different to normal cars ie i cant nip it down to quickfit etc. any advice? Cheers Ian |

Hi Shawry,
Check your tyre pressures first. The sidewalls of rft's are that stiff if the tyre is low on air then the outside edges will wear first. Have a look at this website to find your nearest place for alignment http://www.multimap.com/clients/plac...nt=alignmycar3 |

Thanks Skid, i did check the tyre pressures when i first had the car and they were a little low and of course i dont know what the previous owner did about pressures.
thanks for the links also, does this mean that it is a normal procedure for tracking? thanks again Ian |

The companies found through the link will have a hunter machine and the knowledge of how to use it.
It is capable of measuring camber, castor, toe alignment etc. Best to have a good read through the various links on the site. It is not the cheap type of tracking that some tyre fitting places do, when they hook the gauges over the wheels and lasers indicated if the tracking is out. It will usually take around 1/2 hour maybe longer depending upon how much adjustment is necessary. After which you will get a before and after print out showing your cars alignment. Expect to pay around £40 to have the car checked. Adjustment will cost extra. Hope this helps Mark Last edited by Skid; 11-03-2009 at 02:58 AM.. |

i had a play last month on a buell track day. I would guess that it would be much tamer than a fgree for all track day though. Oh yes and i have been round the nurburgring a couple of times.
your srad looks like the proper tool? my 955 is a bit lardy for serious use. |

Front tyres are renowned for scrubbing the outside edges on E9x's. Correct tyre pressures and alignment can reduce the wear but not rid this.
Just about to hit 50k on the original fronts. The outside edges are going first. Still have 3mm in the middle. |

Stealers ? I don't think you really comprehend what is involved in a full KDS ? If you think you can weight and setup the car, then adjust the settings (interconnected) - tying up a ramp for over an hour and do it for less ... go for it. Bob under the arches can "do your tracking" for much less using some old mirror guages if you want to save money. I can't remember the last KDS I got, but pretty sure it was under £300. D.

For starters the KDS equipment is £15K+
I would never contemplate allowing backdoor bob touching my alignment!

I went there a few years ago on the bike. There were 10 of us, we had gone to spa to watch a 24hr race and decided a trip to the ring was in order. Have also done trackdays at donnington park. The gixer is a great track bike, far better and more capable than the numpty riding it! |

it was 5 years ago, i bought a ducati 900ss off ebay and spent a week in europe with 3 mates, we also did spa went round the ring and stayed in ypres, it was brill and the bike was faultless. it did play up afterwards with several faults so i upgraded to the 955. We now make it an annual thing, did the ring again on the 955 and been to Le Mans, hopefully going to switzerland next june to find that bendy bit of road near Stelvio!
