Fog Light Delete with 335is Grills and Ducts

Hey all,

I have been pouring through the forums but I have found little data on my specific question. I have ordered the parts for the fog light delete using the 335is grills and ducts. I have an LCI e92 with the M sport pack so it should be a bolt on event. My concern is with the left hand side of the car. I ordered that duct but I do not have the Aux water radiator installed on my car.

My question to those that have done this conversion is, how did you handle the left hand side duct? I was hoping to simply attach the duct to the bumper and then put a blanking plate on the back end of the duct. That way it would look proper from the outside but not just be blowing air into the bumper. After researching a bit more it appears, however, that the duct actually attaches to the aux radiator rather than the bumper. If this is the case I am toast as I will not have anything to attach the duct to in my car.

Can anyone who has done this take some photos of this area?

Also, I thought I have seen in some of the euro forums where there was a blanking plate just behind the LH grill on cars without the aux radiator. Any thoughts on this?

My parts should arrive next week Tuesday so I will be able to look them over more closely then. In the mean time I would appreciate any insights anyone might have.

I've got an IS and removed my bumper before. You can probably zip tie it in somehow but the duct attaches to a shroud on the cooler....it just wedges into the bumper.

Crud. This is what I was afraid of. I may just have to leave the duct out and have the grill open into the bumper cavity.

Either that or get the aux radiator kit and install it.

Here you go.

I dont have the air ducts. You cant really tell theyre missing since its so dark in there but when you come up close you can see the bottom covers. im eventually going to order the air ducts and trying to double sided tape them on or figure out a way to hold them in place. it cant be too hard.

Awesome! Thanks for the photo. Since I have the LH duct coming I am going to see if I can bodge something together. I would really like to fab a blanking plate at the far end of the duct so I'm not just blowing air into the cavity. Seems like added drag I wouldn't need.

LMK how you mount it up im curious as well. and if you block it off completely at the end of the duct, you better have it mounted up real secure or i imagine itll blow off at high speeds..

Hmm. You make a valid point about blocking it off. I guess the same can be said of pressurizing the fender liner if you don't block it off though. I will have to evaluate once I get the parts in next week.

Well I got a wild hair and dug in again and got the drivers side air duct mounted. I just drilled a couple holes in the right spots on the duct and zip tied it to the wire harness and structure. It worked really well and the duct is in there very solid. I am thinking about trying to find the grill cover from the PPK stage 2 or the is and cutting the fender liner and installing it. This would give the air from duct a way to get out.

For posterity, here is the complete list of parts for this mod:

51748050583 - Air duct front left
51748050584 - Air duct front right
51118050585 - Air outlet cover, left
51118050586 - Air outlet cover, right
51118050623 - Retainer frame, air outlet cover, left
51118050624 - Retainer frame, air outlet cover, right
51747260405 - Air duct, oil cooler, left

This assumes you have the aux oil cooler on the right hand side of the car. If you don't and you want to have the air from the RH duct escape you would want to order the following as well:

51717161436 - Air duct, oil cooler, right

I also order some clipnuts and screws to attach the grills to the wheel well liner too:

qty (6) 41357060601 - Clip nut
qty (6) 07147129160 - Hex head screw with washer

Just got the drivers side grill in. It was broken in shipping though. Tischer was right on it though and has sent a replacement. Since this can be installed easily I went ahead and cut the fender liner and installed the broken one though.

Bumping an old thread I know but I would like to follow up.

I have installed the IS ducts to my 335i a while back. Now I just finished the install of the PPM2 extra radiator and my last step is installing the "grill" in the left hand fender liner. How did you go about measuring exactly where to cut? I want this to line up well and look OEM as it is all OEM parts and you seem to have managed well.

If you look at the fender well liner closely you will see the outline of the cutout and the required holes. All you need to do is take a sharp razor and carefully cut along those lines.

With this part list both the LH and RH ducts vent into the fenders? I am planning on doing this upgrade (LCI non-sport to Msport Bumper) soon and I love the deleted fog light look but I want to make sure everything bolts up properly and doesn't look out of place.

I cannot speak to the full bumper conversion. The parts listed are what you would need if you already had the complete LCI M-sport bumper installed.

I believe I have all other necessary parts but as you have it now, do both ducts vent into the wheel wells through the liner?

Also which of those part #'s are the trim that go horizontal across the duct opening? Is that horizontal trim the piece that clips onto the tabs on the bumper it is it the ducts that clip onto the tabs on the bumper?

As I sit now I have them venting into the wheel well, yes. The passenger side has the OEM oil cooler there. Originally I had the duct venting directly out the rear grill on the drivers side but I have since installed the 335is aux radiator in that place so both ducts feed something.

I believe the parts you are asking about are these:

51118050585 - Air outlet cover, left
51118050586 - Air outlet cover, right
51118050623 - Retainer frame, air outlet cover, left
51118050624 - Retainer frame, air outlet cover, right

They are a two-piece design that sandwiches the bumper skin. The retainer frame fits onto the back of the hole in the bumper and then the cover snaps into the retainer from the front.
