Vibration after coming off the accelerator

So yesterday the pads were due a replacement. I initially started with the rears, in which was impossible to remove the T45 Guide pins (or whatever there called) on the callipers. To my surprise the actual calliper could move when moving it with my hand. Which surely isn't right. On closer inspection it seems that the pin is cross threaded as it was not screwed in properly. So I decided to leave the rears and book a ramp where I can get the breaker bar on the bolt. I then changed the front pads over, al was good. I took it for a drive around the road and seemed fine.

Today on the way back from the shop I noticed an awful low noise and vibration when coming off the accelerator and when braking. However not when accelerating.

It could very likely be the calliper or online states similar symptoms are caused by leaky cv joint.

Any ideas, ? thanks

Is the vibration coming through the steering wheel or the seat? That'll tell you which end the problem is.

It sounds like you're talking about the slide pins which allow the caliper to float. You don't need to remove them to get the caliper off but it can be a good idea to replace them if they're pitted or blackened.
I recently replaced mine- I had to use an extension to get the force necessary. After 117000 miles mine were actually slightly curved!

It sounds like yours are in good shape if you can move the caliper freely, as that's what the slide pins are there to do.

To get the caliper off you just need to remove the caliper hanger IIRC these are two 16mm bolts.

Does the noise change when you brake as well as being off the throttle?

Does it still make it if you just coast without the clutch being engaged?

Thanks for the reply lads,

Turned out I didn't tighten the b*stard lug nuts up so the wheel was probably wobbling. Stupid careless mistake which could have cost me big time.

In regards to the pins they are the guide pins which I've attached a photo. The calliper (rear n/s) does move a good 2/3cm, this can't be normal can it?

Doesn't sound good regarding the caliper movement. Normally you can just wriggle them a bit, but not slide them around a few cm. Check...Everything.

Also note that the guide pins are a 7mm Allen key, not torx.

Okay thanks, the pin is almost impossible to loosen. Due to the car on jack stands I don't have the clearance to use a breaker bar. I think it's cross threaded so I don't want to cause more damage taking it out if the threads inside of the calliper are messed

The pins thread into the carrier, not the caliper, so wouldn't be the end of the world if you did destroy the threads. You can remove the carrier from the hub without removing the guide pins...that would enable you to get the caliper and carrier out in the open to have a good look and go at the pins, if the flexi hose will also unscrew from the brake line.

Good luck

If they're original. The replacements I put on mine were torx.

Try giving whatever your using to undo the slide pins a tap or two with a rubber mallet.
If/when you do get them apart if the threads are gone on the calliper carrier you can re thread it, I used a sealey TRM9 x 1.25mms repair kit & a friendly engineers apprentice to do the job for free

A quick update for the thread: I tried with the mallet, I cannot get these bolts off. Would a go with impact driver risk be OK as a last resort? Or will it snap the head of the bolt off?
