Full refresh/repaint and need to know what else to do

I Just picked up an 09 e92 xdrive coupe that's been sitting for a while. It only has 109k on it though and aside form the color is exactly the car I've been looking for. Because the car sat for a while there's some mild rust and a ton of oxidation I need to take care of. I'm going to strip the entire car down to a shell to clean everything up and paint it. Since I'm pulling the engine and drive train I'm going to reseal everything while I have it out. New valve cover and upper end gaskets, oil pan and lower gaskets, crank seal (and guard) and all new rubber (hoses, seals etc) as well as a media blast. Pretty much everything I can without going into the engine. Performance wise I'm doing catless down pipes, hot side intake, relocating expansion tank, larger IC, charge pipe, turbo outlets and intercooler outlet. Anything else I should do while the engine is out? I'm still on the fence on which clutch to run too.

Talking

you basically have a full bolt-on, you'll need to do much more in-depth mods if you want to push more power than a fbo 335.

Put turbos on it while it's out. No reason to be cheap on that if you're doing everything else.

I'd do the Rear Main Seal, if I were you. The crank seal yes. Leave it alone. Put a guard around it. Maybe buy an aluminum Power-steering pulley. Upgrade your engine & trans mounts.

If you are looking for more power? Upgraded turbos with a stage 2 pump will provide that no problem. You will need a custom tune. Wedge tunes work best with MHD.

Low pressure

Judging by that question, Probably be good to do a bit of research before you dive too deep.

A lot of posts I see say don't bother with a lpfp unless running e85. Not sure if there's anywhere near here that sells it though. I was looking at upgrade turbos and will probably end up going with them. Already planned for the crank seal guard too.

So if you plan on turbos get a fuel pump, that's the reason it was suggested. Even with 93 if you want to use the turbos.

That at least make sense. I'm looking at dual walboro 525's and a second controller.

If you are not going to run ethanol or push 600hp you don't need dual lpfp's. I run a single 450 on E50 ethanol and no issues, at about 450whp.

I was shooting for 500 whp but would like the headroom for more if I want to. Because the entire car is torn apart I'd rather build it once.

I don't think you need the seal guard

I'm hoping I dont need the seal guard but it's cheap insurance. Might as well add it when ita easy to do. I got the engine compartment mostly stripped today and the engine taped up so I can start cleaning it for paint.

It's not just that, if he went with stage 2 turbos, the stock LPFP probably won't be able to keep up.

Since you got the engine out,

I'd redo all of the gaskets & seals.

1) valve cover sandwiched Between 2 beads of Ultra Black

2) oil pan gasket sandwiched Between 2 beads of Ultra Black

3) oil filter housing gasket sandwiched Between 2 beads of Ultra Black

4) Rear Main Seal - use Ultra Grey

5) Front Crank Seal - use Ultra Grey

6) Megatronic Seal

7) Transmission Oil Flush through the trans cooler hot line (you'll need 12 qts to do it right)

You don't need dual Walboro 450's to achieve 500hp. A single Walboro 450 is good for 600 to 700 hp. If you ran dual 450's you might have to upgrade the HPFP. If you are worried, get the hellcat 525 walboro.

8) look at Rob Beck Stage 2 or Stage 2 plus turbos

9) 1.75 or 2" inlets MMP or VRSF

10) 2" SS VRSF outlets

11) 5" stepped or 7" FMIC

12) MMP catless downpipes

13) secondary cat delete / replace with Vibrant 1792 resonators

14) BMW PE or 335is exhaust

15) cone filters or an upgraded CAI box like an AFE momentum

16) Cobb charge pipe (order from Cobb direct)

17) MHD Stage 2+ / maybe even a custom tune from Wedge.

18) change out the Differential fluid

19) you are going to need to upgrade your suspension to handle all that power 😉

Mweis, That's pretty close to the start of my list so far. Every seal, hose and mount in the engine and trans. Mine's a 6spd though but I will be changine the trans, TC and diff fluids. I also got a full set of poly suspension bushings and already removed everything from under the car, pressed out the stock bushing, sand blasted everything and repainted it. I've got catless downpipes and am doing a Burger charge pipe so I can use a 335d expansion tank so I can run a hot side intake as well as turbo outlet pipes. While the engine is out I'm replacing the valve cover and doing the RB PCV valve with a catch can and plugging the air ports in the head. Cosmetically the entire car is being repainted, inside, outside and underneath. I'm pulling all the glass, including the front and rear windshield, as well as everything under the hood, in the trunk under the car and the interior. You'll never be able to tell this car wasn't factory white.

What color are you going to have the car painted?

Poly bushings? If it's a track car yes. If it's a mainly a DD that sees some track time through out the year then perhaps no. M3 subframe & Differential bushings are a better choice for a car that's mainly a DD.

You can also get a wave track LSD for pretty cheap now days, if you can DIY it. Otherwise, expect to pay $2000.00 for a plug & play 🎃.

Man if I lived near you and we weren't in COVID 19 mode, I'd be at your house everyday.

Your project looks really fun & challenging
