Shock observation

Hi

I've just taken off my 140k front and rear shocks.

Before I took the suspension off I always suspected the rears were shot because the car felt very uneasy in the rear when taking any corner passionately. I suspected the fronts were good, they felt as such.

Upon testing the shocks when off the car that's absolutely the case. The fronts take a lot of force to push down and rebound straight away. However the rears I can push down with my little finger and have absolutely no rebound.

I also had another set of used shocks this time from a car with 90k (off here ). The fronts again almost like new, the rears really slow on rebound.

Hope this info can help someone else.

General consensus on the interweb is a lifespan of 50K for 'normal' shock absorbers. The latest magnetorheological types are probably too new to determine how reliable they will be.

Even top quality shocks don't last for ever. My Ohlins Road & Tracks need a rebuild at 50K for example...
