So an update on this, my car is STILL with BMW who still can't diagnose the issue. They're in dialogue with BMW UK's technical team who have so far asked the dealership to carry out a whole range of tests on the gearbox and fuel supply, change all injectors, change HPFP and today they're looking at the ports for carbon deposits which if present, they'll walnut blast out.
Starting to piss me right off now as it'll have been with them for 6 weeks on Thursday but not a lot I can do |

The worst of it is your car will have been parked up somewhere having nothing done with it for the majority of the time it's been with your dealer.
Last time mine went to main dealers they asked me to get it to them before 8am & they'd be in touch by 11am but they would need it for a whole day to run diagnostics for which I was paying £140. I had left my dash cam in the car & after reviewing the footage my car wasn't even moved into a service bay until 2.30pm, where it sat for a further 45mins. It was then 'worked on 'for a total of 19 minutes. My service advisor contacted me at 5.30pm to tell me I could pick up the car but they would need it for another 2 days to run further diagnostics at a cost of £280.

Reminds me of the M5's time at Benhams. Took them weeks and lots of swapping parts before finally finding the issue. They used a donor M5 back then to trial bits off LOL.
Sorted my misfire on cylinder 3 with a spark plug change. Just fitted NGK's that are one step colder for better performance. Seems to have sorted it. Would be interested to know if they've left the new parts on or removed them again (as I was told they do do that).

I could tell them this but they won't listen as they only do what their computer tells them to. Old fashioned investigative work seems to have gone out the window with main dealers these days. Further update, after removing the inlet manifold yesterday, the ports were heavily coked up so today they will be walnut blasting them and then testing the car. On the bright side, I was planning to have the walnut blasting done myself at some point so this has saved me £300! |
