Throttle Lag/Rev Hang - Any fixes? (4 years later..)
So I just recently reacquired my 2011 335i 6MT that I sold back in late 2014. The car was perfect for the first 2 years of ownership, and then with one update the car was changed completely. The throttle felt horrible and there was a rev hang at 2.5k when I would shift. My dealer installed the PPK free of charge, which eliminated the rev hang, but the throttle has still felt dead ever since. For example, when the car is in neutral sitting still, if I tap the throttle, nothing happens, whereas when the car was new it would give a nice, sharp blip. Also, the throttle pedal dead zone increased a ton.
I was wondering if anyone had these same issues and had them resolved, given that it's been 4+ years now since I sold the car. The issues still remain - over the moon to have the car back but if there's a solution out there that I'm not aware of I'd love to hear it. Thanks!

Unfortunately, turbo motors are just going to be lacking in throttle response versus NA motors. That being said, it sounds like your complaint could simply be fixed by just toying around with different acceleration pedal maps, or potentially a tune.
MHD allows for a linear throttle setting versus the stock progressive throttle setting. This makes the go pedal a lot more predictable when heel-toeing, etc. A tune, even just Stage 1, would really liven up your bottom end response as well.

I know what you mean OP, I've driven a lot of BMWs with the N55 and I have definitely noticed that some of them have much more responsive throttle than others. I was in an X5 today that had great throttle response and had 170,000 on the clock.
I always thought maybe the valvetronic motor is just weak in the less responsive ones but never bothered buying a new one to test that theory. |

I had rev hang when the dealer installed a Dinan tune. The revs would hang only while driving. It couldn't be reproduced when the speed was 0. When shifting, it would hang for half a second at 2300-2500 RPM before finally falling. It seemed like it was some sort of feature built into the software causing it to happen.
I sent them detailed logs that show the exact phenomenon. Dinan couldn't solve the issue even with the most recent update, and they couldn't reproduce it on their own vehicles. They ended up removing the tune and refunded me. It made the car very difficult to drive. Neither the PPK nor the MHD tune have that issue. I'm not sure what the problem was, but it must have something to do with the base software that was used to build it. |

I've thought about doing a sprint booster....wonder if that would make a difference?

That's exactly what mine had. See video here:
My car died one day driving on the street so I brought it to the dealer, they programmed it for a "valvetronic fault" and then it was like this ever since. I wonder if it has to do with my valvetronic servo motor being bad? Quote:
