Cool DIY - Change Your N55 Engine Belts & Pulleys in 20 Easy Minutes E90 E92 E93

I couldn’t find any DIY write ups or videos for the E9x N55 Engine belts and pulleys maintenance so I made my own to share on the forums.

My local BMW Dealership wanted over $1200 ($700 of that insane price was for labor).

I did the entire scope of work by myself in 20 minutes on a freezing mid-Winter morning with little tools and one hand recording my work on a camera.

You will need:
1. N55 E9x Belt and Pulleys Refresh Parts (OE and OEM N55 E9x belts and pulley kits go fo $160 to $200 online)

2. Torx T50 and Torx T60 drivers. Preferably on a 1/2 or 3/8 female

3. 1/2 or 3/8 Ratchet wrench for the Torx drivers.

4. 20 inches or longer 1/2 or 3/8 breaker bar for your T60 driver to tackle the tensioner.

5. Torx T20 on a small screwdriver for removing the front air box trim.

6. Pen and paper to draw the belt diagram you see on your car.

7. Rag to clean your hands since most likely your oil filter housing gasket is leaking.

You did good in doing it yourself! (quite expensive).
I don't think the idling pulleys should be replaced every time though (if the bearing is still good, that seems good to me).
Good job also for shooting videos of it!

I will post a videos of it on the N54 in the following weeks if of any interest. Took the engine all the way down into pieces (engine overhaul - complete job in videos).

I know N55 and N54 are different, but some of it might still be useful.

The videos name begin with a number (which correspond on the order tasks were performed). Currently rebuilding it.

Awesome!

I love Canada by the way!

Yeah for some odd reason tons of videos and DIYs on N54 E9x cars and N55 F30 cars but none on N55 in the E9x sedans/coupes/verts!
