It's really disappointing to read the comments about sound quality. I guess it's a warning sign when it only has Bluetooth 2.0 and doesn't mention the audio processor/DAC.

Definitely won't be buying one now.

Agreed, very close to getting one, but sound quality is a deal breaker.

Would have bought this in a heartbeat if the sound quality was like the stock unit.

Just received my unit from Avin yesterday and today got an email with the install instructions. Before I bought it, I had a message exchange with their customer service and asked specifically if it required use of my "aux" input for use and he said "no". Back to the email... the first thing the email references is:

You must connect the 3.5mm audio cable from the "AUX-OUT" on the MAIN harness to the AUX input under your armrest. (Do NOT make the mistake of plugging this 3.5mm cable into the MIC-IN)

I don't want to insert an analog source into the system and BT sounds like crap. I've already started to return process without even taking it out of the box. There has to be a reasonably price way to upgrade the CCC audio system without the downgrade in sound quality.

In another thread a user stated that he added an in-line pre amp before going into the aux port. Has anyone else tried this? I just ordered a unit to replace the CCC in my '08 e90. I had read a few complaints about the sound quality before ordering, but not to the extent as in this thread and no I'm second guessing if I actually want to install this or not. The CCC interface really doesn't bother me nearly as much as I thought it would when I purchased the car

I paired a Fiio amp with Avin 8.8 and music sounds a lot better now but didn't help with the intermittent buzz.
I wish I could use an external DAC like AudioQuest one.
Too bad Android 4.4 doesn't support usb audio output.

There have been complaints on the F30/32 forums that the dynamic parking lines are not working with the manual transmissions.

No I have 6AT. Both PDC and PAS work flawlessly.

Welp, that's that. Maybe Avin can figure this out in a year or two...

Got the answer from Avin USA today...

Dynamic parking lines do not work with manual transmissions for the E90 CCC i-drive.

The dynamic parking lines work fine on my 2009 335xi iDrive (CIC not CCC) with manual transmission. In fact, its the only thing about the AVIN unit that I'm really happy with.

However, I have PDC installed, which I think might be important

A couple of years ago, I installed an aftermarket backup camera controlled by one of the cheap ebay modules. No matter what settings I coded, the camera would not work, even though many posters with AT had no problems with the same unit. Eventually, I bit the bullet and retrofit an OEM PDC module and rear bumper sensors. To my surprise, the backup camera then began working fine.

Just a thought

That's very interesting...A few people on the F30/32 forum with manual transmissions can not get the dynamic parking lines to function. It seems to be related to the difference in wiring for rear camera activation. Manuals need a trigger from the reverse light to activate the camera, where I believe the automatics use the canbus for reverse sensing.

Hesitant on installing one of these on my E60 after reading some of the feedback regarding sound quality. I wouldn't consider myself an audiophile, but I can definitely notice when sound quality isn't up to par.

Would pairing this with a DSP such as Bimmertech's PP82DSP solve the sound quality issue?

If youre willing to spend 8 dollars you can have Android auto over WiFi by downloading headunit reloaded. There is a free version to try first to make sure your phone works with it but it works pretty well. I'm using it with my note 8 and my Frankenstein setup to help the sound quality

IT IS NOT "PLUG AND PLAY"

but yes I have Logic 7 and it works, it sends the sound in via AUX setting and picks up steering wheel controls via CAN Bus.
Really not "PLUG & PLAY"? Which wire do you mean?

Still on the fence about getting one of these after hearing the issues with audio and other bugs.

Of course my CCC looks dated but it's running the latest maps and has usb input, overall it works flawless really.

Has there been any other better options out there? I really want to change my CCC head unit. The sound quality issue and the response time with the idrive is a killer for me with the AVIN unit. So far retrofitting to a CIC might be a better option, unless someone has discovered anything else out there.

The topic started was for the Avin 8.8 inch screen but the 10.25 inch screen is mainly talked about here. May sound like a silly question but is there a difference between the 2 units when talking about the poor sound quality and other negative comments? I already ordered my 8.8 inch unit and will have it by this afternoon. I just came across this topic yesterday. My sound system is all upgraded so outside of a severe sound degradation, I'm not really concerned at the moment with poor sound quality.

On an update - I installed my unit and have great sound quality. The bluetooth audio volume is not as loud as the AM/FM radio, CD, or aux wire but there is no loss in sound quality. I have played with the features that I would be using the most and have no complaints at all. I'm loving my new Avin unit and am very happy with my purchase.

Does it boot into the avin android side when you restart the car?
