JB4+data cable + tablet?
I've posted this in a few different subforums and really don't know where it belongs, but I'll try here too:
I'm looking for workarounds to dropping $140 on JB4 Bluetooth connect. I've used Bluetooth transmitters/receivers for Bluetooth devices with my desktop such as keyboards, mice etc. I am wondering if there's some way to connect the BMS data cable to a Bluetooth transmitter and then have a windows-OS (is Android an option?) tablet inside the car with a Bluetooth receiver. I haven't bought a tablet yet but I'm trying to see what my options are before I pick one up or run the data cable through the car. Any ideas? Edit: realized this sub is for n55 but I don't think it makes a difference in this case Last edited by jokers_greg; 03-11-2019 at 09:31 PM.. |

Looks like I can fish the BMS data cable through, then go through an OTG cable to an android device. Anyone have any experience with this sort of setup?

For those wondering this can be had for very cheap.
Buy an Amazon fire 7 Usb male to female 5ft (to extend BMS data cable) Usb to micro usb OTG Cable Window mount tablet holder Jb4 connect app All together can be had for less than $100 which is at least 50% cheaper than the Bluetooth connect kit |

In my experience, stick to the cable. The bluetooth will drop out during user adjustment settings and cause limp mode. In some cases the distance between the DME box and CD player was too far for it to even connect. I know I'm not the only one that had this issue. I had to make a RS232 extension into my cabin so the BT wouldn't loose connection.

Yeah let me know how it goes, but I ended up going with the parts I listed. In the end it's much cheaper than the Bluetooth connect kit and it includes a device dedicated to gages and a mount too. Seems like a no brainer to me if you're willing to pull a little cable under your dashboard (not difficult at all!)
