E90 spare tire

Hi, I want to switch to non-runflat tires on my e90 328i and I am looking to get a spare tire kit. Is there a good place to get one? I need a jack, wrench and the space saver spare. Thanks

I have an e60 spare tire kit that I carry on longer trips.
Looks like this.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-5-SERIE...-127632-2357-0

Or you can just buy the spare tire alone, a cheap jack like this
https://www.harborfreight.com/2-ton-...ack-64874.html
And a 17mm lug wrench.

Try your local pick-a-part or junk yard... you'll find everything for $50.

If you get lucky and they have it.

Ebay rates are about $100 shipped for the tire and then you need the jack/iron and the foam holder is also nice to have.

I will have the full setup to sell shortly after I complete my M3 brake conversion nd need to go with the larger spare rim from an X5.

Newer cars come with various means of patching a leaking tire, and re-filling, without removing the wheel from the car. That makes more sense to me than carrying a spare tire, since that approach loses a LOT or trunk space.

Go to a wrecking yard, and look through the trunks of much newer cars, and see what solutions are available, and pick one. Our 2019 Hyundai Ioniq has a patch kit and a smal air compressor that take up VERY little space.

This is another solution, but it only works on tires that have small leaks.
If your tire completely fails, a spare would be ideal, especially on long drives.

Not really true. Some will seal holes as large as 1/4". How many times have you had anything even that large? For me, never. And I've been driving for over 50 years.

Agreed, I recently had a 10mm pin (construction rivet or something) puncture the tire on my e70 (which had non RFT ATs and somehow it still puntured it).

I was 40 miles outside of Wickenburg heading toward Vegas on a Saturday afternoon and I had to drive about 80 miles to Kingman, AZ (there is really nothing that is open on the weekends between them) on a my temp spare.

I might have been able to put a multiple plugs in it to get there but the spare was a much safer option... Leaving the large pin would have probably destroyed the tire where I was able to have a tire shop patch it for $30 because I didnt' drive on it...

RFTs would also not have worked because driving 80 miles on a RFT would also have destroyed the RFT...

Twice for me in the past 10 years... Once recently in the X5 and also once on my old XJ jeep cherokee. Both were about 3/8" punctures.

Both times I would have been stranded 100 miles from home if I dind't have a spare.

Never either, around town I’ve gotten a flat, but family brings a spare wheel and jack if I need it.

On longer trips, especially driving into the night, I wouldn’t want to rely on a small air pump or fix a flat can. They’re good if your tire has a constant leak and you’re not able to get it repaired right away, but they can’t fix large holes.

The oem 5 series spare with the kit in the foam doesn’t take up much space for daily driving.

I'm still salty over the demise of the spare tire... we shouldn't have to be having this conversation!!!
And I despise run-flats.

Here's my set up with a spare strapped down, and jack etc. in the hold:

I also keep a battery jumper and tire inflator in there, but moved them for the pic.

^ perfect example of how to carry it!
You still have space above the tire and space between the tire and rear of the trunk.
I’d throw an old bed sheet around it to keep cargo and carpet free of tire marks.

I use this setup on the e91.
This trip, I drove from 5pm to 4am.
Didn’t use it, but had I gotten a flat tire at those hours, I would’ve been pretty stranded.

Check the age of any spare you’re looking at, you don’t want to be relying on an 18 year old spare tire either.
