What would friends and family have to do with anything? Wouldn't you both be equally protected through a business transaction? He has no recourse if you don't send the item after a friends and family transaction.

It's a way to avoid a potential scam. Scammers are able to claim I never sent the item, or submit a return and send me back a box with a brick in it. Paypal refunds the money to the buyer and the buyer keeps the item and I get shafted.

If the account is well established I have no problem using goods/services so long as the buyer pays the 3% fee. The above situation could still happen but if the account is well established the likelihood of them doing a scam is much lower.

I guess a better option is just to not sell anything to new accounts which is the route I'll go.

Okay that's valid. I actually was the one who sent him this listing and can vouch for him. I just didn't understand the friends and family part as a lot of times that's a red flag for a scam.

He just got a 335i so he hasn't been in the bimmer community long, hence the new account.
