Same here man, I hear things that nobody else does, and once I hear them, I can't keep my mind from seeking them out nonstop above any other noise going on around me.

UPDATE 2 Felt pads installed. I'll update again when I confirm this is working. it's raining like a sonofabitch outside right now so that probably won't be today since I won't be able to hear it because of the rain.

Got these pads at Home Depot a long time ago. Stacked them 3 high to make solid contact with the vent itself and installed in 2 locations. I'm hoping it puts enough upward pressure on the vent and downward pressure on the ducting to silence whatever I'm hearing in there. vent actually sits more flush with the dash instead of being sunk in a few mm, even looks better IMO.

UPDATE I'm going to remove these and place felt where i can to make them not rattle. I'm not sure about a lot of you guys who've complained about dash rattle and couldn't find it, but I'm hopeful this is the solution to my problem.

This is a definitive source of one of my dash rattles. Vents on both sides do it.
I have yanked and pried and tried to get it off to no avail.

Any help is much appreciated.

I got these same felt pads in a darker color for my clattering visors! Ha amazing...they're still doing the job.

Too bad we have to resort to these sorts of things though- Morristown BMW actually spent days felting the glove box, center consoles, and doors in my E93- it currently holds the record for the quietest hardtop on the east coast LOL

With the exception of this damn dash rattle of course (don't worry GB, I'm asking about those rubber bushings, just in case they do the trick.)

I definitely have a milder form of this

But, if you just fill your entire engine bay with Great Stuff, I'll bet you anything that will fix the rattle.

Three years later, I’m bumping this thread!

This was my source of a rattle, a rattle that was driving me insane, I couldn’t take it anymore. I could hold the vent and the rattle would stop, I was willing to break them and go without a vent... then I saw this thread!

I got my vent popped out in about 2 mine with a similar pry tool. Thought I was going to break it at first which I wouldn’t have cared ha.
I need to buy the felt pads, I’m actually probably going to double them up on either side. After I buy and install, I’ll update this post with my results... fully expect it to work!
Much thanks for this “fix” !!

Need some help here.. so bumping this thread again.

I have a buzz that comes from the A pillar dash area when on rough pavement or dirt roads.. Absolutely driving me insane.

So far I have:

Coated the driver side vent plastic bits with flex seal.
Put goo, silicone, hot glue, or grease on anything that looks like it might be making noise.
Took my instrument cluster apart and put a dab of hot clue on anything that looked like it wanted to buzz.
Put weather stripping around instrument cluster.
Messed with instrument cluster mounting screws.
Messed with the little defog vent.
Drove around with all the vents out.
Drove around holding onto the instrument cluster.

None of that works... This is not a rattle but a buzz.. Sounds like a tuning fork mated with a honey bee.

So...
In desperation (please for give me next owner/mechanic) I shoved an entire pack of pink fiberglass insulation sold in those handy packs Home Depot into the opening behind the air vent. Just kept shoving it in and the dash kept taking it.

It worked!!!

Then 3 weeks later it is back

So I bought some more fiberglass and shoved that in and removed the baby diaper I had shoved in there too. Worked for a day.

I've about ready to take the dash out... What is behind there??? Its like the good old days on the Oldsmobile line when workers would hang nuts on a piece of string inside door panels just to screw with people. I didn't think Germans had that kind of humor but maybe they do!!!

Rattle

Good luck man! Keep us posted just in case we get it as well later! PS, I hope the baby diaper wasn't full!
