How often, in terms of months, should someone who drives maybe 10 miles a day to work and back change their oil? So far, I've found between 5,000 and 7,500 miles, but I *might* drive that in a year. My ex was changing it every 3 months which is expensive and seems excessive.

Also, does the time frame vary according to the oil and filter you buy?

My search function is not working, so I apologize if this is a duplicate question.
This is the subject of much discussion - one of the top 3-4 thread subjects, along with all the arguments about which oil is best.

Answer is, in your case, once per year. The nominal is 15K miles or one year (in the USA).

For what it’s worth, I just replaced my liquimoly molygen after 21,000 miles. I don’t recommend you wait that long, but my engine was only just maybe kinda sorta showing signs of low oil pressure.

Just used the Liqui Moly Molygen 5W-40 which is recommended by the FCP euro guys.

Here's more info on that green oil:

Anyone here with N52 engine having issues with oil consumption? When I bought the car it had 0w30 Castrol in it and I had no issues with thirsty engine. After driving 3000km I switched to 5w40 and since then I had to start filling up quite often. Last time before driving 400km distance the sensor showed minimum level so I added half litre and it was gone after finishing the driving. Not sure if I should go back to 0w30. Does it actually mean that if engine is thirsty that I should change the oil? I want of course a good oil but to a fill up another 5l of oil between interval is kind of crazy.

I know this is old, but I called them and they confirmed that they do accept the old oil in the original containers.

I have not done it yet, but I am going to start to as this is a really good value when buying two or more since they give you free shipping over $49. Link to what I use below (5W30 Pento High Performance Engine Oil (5 Liter) - Pentosin 8043206):

That looks like a port for the AC system.

Hello guys, i am currently using Castrol Titanium edge 5w-30 on my N52, but car eats quite a lot of it (most on highway), no leaks at all. I am thinking of changing the oil, what would you recommend?

Wait are you actually telling me that I can buy oil from FCP, use it, then mail it back and they'll send a free "warranty" replacement? Or they just accept used oil to recycle it like many auto parts suppliers do?

Put 5-40 in it, should burn a little less

Yes. If you put in 7 quarts and return 5, they will refund the 5.

Well that's pretty useful! Is there any cost-effective way to ship oil back to them?

Buy with PayPal and then use the PayPal return guarantee to refund the shipping cost

That's goddamn brilliant I'm gonna go ahead and do this. Thanks for the tips! I've already changed the oil 3x in 8.5k miles--might as well save some money on it.

Yeah, it's awesome. Haven't had anything too big yet that the return shipping refund hasn't covered.
