That's ****ing insane. If you do it yourself it will cost you about half that. Or you can always buy the filter and oil from Tischner for like $60 and then take it to a decent shop and have them do it for you. Honestly, a shop should NOT charge you more than $20 to do the oil change when you bring in your own supplies. It takes me around 15-20mins to change the oil in my car, it should take a mechanic (with a lift) about 10min.

If you DIY with OEM parts, you can buy the kit from Tischer for around 60 bucks. http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...catalogid=4462

Edit: Damn, Delta, you beat me to it.

$130 isn't cheap, but doesn't seem too horrible. My last daily driver before the E90 was an Accord V6, and my dealer charged almost $90 for a Mobil 1 change.

$85 to $120 in my area. $130 is not expensive considering that normal people change their oil (non-synthetic) every 3K miles. I think Jiffy Lube charges $25-$30 per oil change. $130 / 5 = $26

Pacific BMW in Glendale, CA (right outside LA) wants $190!

Even the independent shops in the area want $100 - $120.

I'm just going to buy the oil and then give a local shop $20 to do it.

No, Jiffy Lube TELLS you that you need it changes every 3,000 miles. Consumer Reports showed that 3,000 offers no advantage over 6,000 miles with regular dino.

And, although BMW tells you it needs to be done at 15,000, nearly everybody here does it at 7,500 or less.

So, I don't see the savings.

Tischer says MSRP on the oil change kit is $53.08 but they charge $62.00 because of shipping! (weight) It might be cheaper from your local dealer, even with sales tax, because of that.

My local indy guy charges me $20 and I provide the oil and filters. I'm getting too old to roll around under a car now. So, $73.08 plus tax if I provide the oil and filter.

BMW specifies annual oil changes and mine was done for free by BMW at less than 3000 miles. If not, I'd go for 7,500, not 15,000.

Well, you're right. If you want to be cautious and change your oil before the recommended 15K then you're not going to see any savings. Just don't complain because you've made an active decision to spend more money. I'm referring to the sheeples who follows BMW's manual.

Motor oil should be changed at least once a year regardless of mileage. I don't exceed 15k miles per year with my cars.

The dealer rate for labor is about $100 an hour. It takes more than 10 minutes even with a lift. It takes at least five minutes just to empty the 7 quarts of oil in the engine, and another 5 to refil it. It takes at least 5 minutes to open the oil filter, remove the element, remove and replace the o-rings, clean the housing and reinstall the filter. To get the car on the lift, centered, and lifted takes at least 2 minutes up and then 2 mintues off and backed out of the bay. And the tech needs to wait for the parts department to give him the parts. So if the parts are $60, the dealer is charging about half an hour for labor. Seems fair.

I dont mind the $130 price as long as it is done RIGHT and they dont screw up my car doing it. I mean its only like once a year or twice tops for me.

You you rather have a BMW factory-trained technician change your oil or a non-ASE certified Jiffy Lube tech using oil from a barrel in the ceiling change your oil?
