Is it worth getting N54 crank bolt capture?

How much of a problem is the crank bolt moving and messing up timing? I read you should get the crank bolt capture if pushing 600 crank hp and I don’t think I’m going to do that so is the CBC a must have to protect your engine?

Also when you take the crank pulley off do the bolts need to be replaced with new?

Definitely recommend CBC if you're chasing 600+

I’m not chasing 600+ so I guess there’s no need for CBC.

Correct me if I'm wrong....but even with a crank bolt capture (CBC), the crank hub can still spin. The CBC just keeps the bold from backing out, it doesn't do anything to actually keep the crank hub from slipping...and that's the problem.

The only way you can 100% keep the crank hub from slipping....is to pin it to the crank shaft with one of those $1K pinned crank hubs that come with the jib to drill holes for pins in the crank.

I looked into that, but at 600hp....I don't know if it's worth it to throw $1K at a problem that doesn't really seem very common until you start pushing huge power levels.

No I did not use it. I did some more research and the CBC doesn’t always stop the crank bolt from coming loose. It wasn’t worth messing with unless you are at nearly 600bhp. Not sure if it’s related but I found that more people with single mass flywheel had this problem.
