idrive software update problems...

I have an E92 330d with a build date of 09/2010. I'm having problems updating the iDrive software.

The software version in the car is MX-002.005.022 and TX-002.005.022.

I've downloaded the appropriate update from the BMW website, put it on the top level of a FAT32 formatted USB stick in the centre console and I get the error message that the software is incompatible. I've tried this with UPD01004, 5 and 6 with no luck and its driving me mad!

Has anyone successfully done an update from this version of the software - or do I have to go to my dealer to get this updated?

Your help / insights would be greatly appreciated...

You can only update the iDrive software via the USB in the glovebox, not the one in the armrest. That's for music play only.

I think it may be a dealer only thing and can take hours!

+1 As far as I know, the only BMW software updates available for download (from BMW) are Bluetooth compatibility updates.

Hi, were you able to get yours updated?

I have the same version (MX-002.005.022 and TX-002.005.022) and getting the same message. (and I'm using the glove box port also)

What did the dealer say?

Having the same issue and dont want to pay dealer 100 if I dont have to...

Dealer was useless - said it could cost up to 300. So I've left it as is... my iPhone 5S works just fine with it. The nav system works fine - its just those little things such as google photos at destination, more office options, extra DAB programme info that its missing with this older version - not really that much for an extra 300 quid and a lot of bother.
