the bmw performance suspension is only made to drop the car 10mm from the non-sport suspension. i wouldnt recommend it to lower your car.

im a technician for BMW. i installed one of these kits 2 weeks ago on a 328i. the customer was upset because there was not a noticeable difference in ride height, thats not what the kit is for. its more for a firmer ride and better dampening.

The old kit (v1) had no springs, so you were using the ZSP springs.
The new kit (v2) comes with springs (yellows) & drops the car about 10mm from ZSP (more if you have non-ZSP), and it looks actually great - you can tell it lowered w/o looking slammed. Wish I would've measure my height before I put the v2 so I can tell you exactly...

You can get a 1/2"-3/4" drop in the front for "free" by cutting the strut stopper tab which allows the strut to mount lower in the knuckle in turn lowering the front. I did this on my sport suspension as a "test" before doing it on my new BMW performance suspension that I just ordered. It works great and doesn't affect suspension travel...yes some might reply that there is a possibility of the wheel bottoming out in the wheel well, I have had no problems. So, with my BMW performance suspension plus the strut modification will give me a 1" drop up front and still a awesome ride

What's the best way to lower the car without losing the handling and the smooth ride? I was actually thinking to get the performance suspensions to lower it a little bit. My front wheels has about 3 fingers of gap. I'm not looking for anything big but a finger of drop is good enough for me. I have 18" wheels on them now. If I get 19's do you think that will help? Like I said an inch will be my goal at the moment. I'm from MA and we have a lot of holes here. I have the stock sports suspension and every time I go in to one of the holes, it feels like something is braking. What's the best suspension to smooth out the bumps with out losing the handling and lowering the car about a finger Any ideas? Thanks. Last edited by BJK1903; 06-05-2012 at 11:53 AM.. |

I just installed it on my e90 330i sport with PS2 ZP 18/255r and 18/225f wheels/tires and the ride and handling has significantly improved especially going over bumps. The car is much more stable and it corners even better. I usually avoid holes as much as possible but even when I go over ducts you just hear deep "thump". It is a perfect fit for "i" models. Also, the ride height decreased slightly and the car sits perfectly in my opinion without looking slammed. I don't have any issues exiting gas stations, driveways and going over speed bumps. |

I forgot to mention that I have a 2008 328XI coupe with sports package installed. I honestly don't know what my tires are. I recently bought the car and I am pretty sure it is the stock tires that came with it. So the performance suspensions are good with holes/bumps. If I get the 19" rims, would that drop the height about a finger? Thanks in advance |

I am running 235/35/19 and 265/30/19 with PS and there is a little less than 2 fingers of gap front and almost one finger of gap rear. If you just change your wheels and stick with the OEM tire sizes, upgrading to 19" wheels won't do much. Front gap will be reduced by 1.4mm , rear gap will increase by 0.13mm

Thank you Emre,
That clears some of the question I had in mind. I sure am going to change my tires, but that is a whole different subject. I'll probably go with what Enigma sent me. Although, still not sure how am i going to drop the car about a finger without losing the good handling. |
