2009 Z4 35i (N54) rough idle.
I realize that I am on the wrong forum but I don't get much response on the Z4 board.
Anyways, I have a Z4 with the N54 and I am having some rough idle issues. It is worse when the car is at running temperature and you turn it off and then start it back up. It idles so rough that it shakes the entire car. BMW is telling me that they are only getting a lean error code. No lights are being triggered. I ran the codes on my BT cable and I was getting the following with no tune: Current Fault Codes 29F4 29F4 Catalytic converter conversion Error will cause a warning light Error is not currently present Test conditions have not been completed Short circuit or signal interruption Freeze Frame Information Event 1 Odometer 63992kms 39762miles Engine speed 2,560.00 rpm air mass calculated 206.18 mg/stk Engine temperature 95.25 °C Intake air temperature 34.50 °C 29F5 29F5 Catalytic converter conversion 2 Error will cause a warning light Error is not currently present Test conditions have not been completed Short circuit or signal interruption Freeze Frame Information Event 1 Odometer 63992kms 39762miles Engine speed 2,560.00 rpm air mass calculated 206.18 mg/stk Engine temperature 95.25 °C Intake air temperature 34.50 °C 29E0 29E0 Fuel mixture control Error will cause a warning light Error is not currently present Test conditions have been completed Timeout Freeze Frame Information Event 1 Odometer 64016kms 39777miles speed 640.00 rpm suction pipe pressure 47.00 kPa relative load 0.00 % matching throttle valve model (factor) 0.99 - BMW is telling me that they have pulled all of the plugs and none of them are wet from a leaking injector. I also had my intake valves blasted under warranty a few months ago so they should be okay. Also my plugs are only a few months old as well. I believe that the HPFP was replaced to the new model under the recall. My BMW dealership has always been very cool with mods but he is telling me that they might have to submit a ticket to BMW to ask them what to do next and he said that they would have to tell them that my car is modded at that time. I am just wondering what else it could be. I imagine that it could be a bad coil or hpfp. Any other ideas? My car is still under warranty until November so I am hoping to get this resolved before then. My only mods are: DP's FMIC Cobb tune but not currently installed. Well I can assure you it's not the downpipes assuming they are installed correctly.
Were the downpipes recently installed or have they been on the vehicle for a while? It could be bad o2 sensors or bad HPFP or LPFP. |

The DP's are installed correctly. They have been on for 6 months with no issue. I realize that it is not the DP's but BMW will not warranty the work unless I take them off. Luckily have a 2 post lift in my garage so it is not that big of a deal, except for my time. They are also making me take off the FMIC as well.
