2011 328i - Wheel Bolt Question
I am moving from the stock 17" inch wheels to an 18" inch wheel
on my 328i Sedan. The 17" inch Stocks are Style 285: 17x8 ET34 all around The Stlye 216 18" inch wheels have the following dimensions: FRONT: 18x8 ET 34 REAR: 18x8.5 ET37 Are longer lug bolts needed, or will the stock ones work? Thanks in advance. |

If they didn't I probably would have had a wheel fall off by now. Seriously though I think the distance from the area the bolt tightens against to the other side of the wheel is the same in both 17 and 18 but I'd be glad to be corrected if I'm wrong

Easy way to know is when you have both your 17s and 18s out of the car put a bolt through the hole and see how much it sticks out the other end of the wheel on both wheels then you know if it's the same

I scored that set of 18's Style 216 for 120 bucks for the set, as they need to be refurbished. I will drop them off at the wheel place next week, then 225/40 18 in the front, 255/35 18 in the rear. Attached pic of the car with the stock set, and the Style 216's I purchased today. Last edited by JochenWoern; 07-24-2021 at 08:35 PM.. |

If it's an OEM wheel with no spacer b/s you won't need to change lug bolts at all. The lug bolts that are on your car are the exact same ones on the car those 18in wheels came off of.
t. former tire tech/shop manager P.S. Don't skimp on tires, get Michelin PS4S or Conti Extreme Contact Sports. Don't get stupid run flats unless you really think you're going to get a flat in the middle of nowhere. Not worth it. Triple check the inner rim flanges for stress fractures, big problem on the sport wheels that are 18in or more. One time saw a 335is with 7 on one wheel alone. Run flats play a major factor in this happening as well. My set of Style 197s had one on the right rear that came off an E92 328i, wasn't leaking yet but on it's way. Had it repaired at one of our shops before I mounted them up.

OP, the wheel offset and wheel diameter has nothing to do with wheel bolt length. Wheel offset is the measured distance of the center line of the rim in relation to the inner face of the wheel's hub. If the wheel manufacturer were to increase the thickness of the aluminum of the wheel hub, that would affect the length of the bolt shaft that could thread into the suspension's hub flange. The thickness of the material at the hub is dictated by engineering specifications and dependent upon the alloy used and the bolt pattern used for the car's suspension. If the wheel is designed for a BMW then there should be no issue with using the standard wheel bolts.

Very similar though. From what I can see they are not the Style 228 wheels either.

So, which one is it? As I as well looked at bmwstylewheels.com, and this was the closest I could come up with. Maybe the 216 wheel made for the American market, while in Europe and the UK it looked slightly different? Oh well, it is an OEM BMW wheel, and I hope it will look great on the car. |

That's what I have on my E46 and E90. Excellent tires. The other two Bimmers have Pilot Sport All Season 3+ just because they got them a few years ago.

Ding ding ding! We got a match! Must be rare considering that BMW Individual badge. Only ever seen that badge on 7er cars.

I've seen them on M sport lci E92s so they must have been at least an option for them. As a matter of fact I think my buddy's E92 has them but I would have to double check when I see them again

They came from a 2013 328i E92, delivered from the factory like that.
