Checking Xenon light level

As I understand, Xenons are supposed to level themselves?

Is there any way of easily checking this?

I have had people flash me on a few occasions recently after I have overtaken them. I've not been flashed by anyone coming the other way.

The beams appear to project out flat but then rise up on the left hand side at the edge of the road if that makes sense?

When going uphill etc the lights just appear to stay on a level with the angle of the car??

The beam shaped upwards to the left is correct for RHD cars to illuminate the verge / curb.

They alter their up/down level to compensate for heavy loads in your boot for example which lowers the back end. Not when the car is on an incline.

Accelerate hard in second and when the front rises/rear squats you'll see the headlight beam lift with the car briefly then go back down as it lowers the lights.

Come off the gas / brake and the opposite will happen.

When you follow someone (from a decent distance) on the flat does your light beam shine above on their rear reg plate? If so they might be a bit high.

Any MOT place with a light level gauge can adjust them for a few quid if you think they're out.

Beam appears around the reg level on others cars - it's when I overtake them and that big wedge of light (thats normally on the verge) illuminates the inside of their car that's causing the issue I think.

I tried the accelerate/brake thing and the light level doesn't appear to move - could be just my perception of it though. Sounds like I may need to pop to the dealer.

When turn on your headlights (infront of a wall etc so you can see the beam), do they auto-test UP / DOWN / UP / DOWN before settling? They should do this.

They don't - my 320d with Halogens used to do it though.

Paul I know your driving a 6er but I think all xenons Auto calibrate when turned on...they're are two level sensors on the chassis one on the front near side and the other on the rear near side although on my car its closer to the middle of the rear chassis...have a look under and check they havent fallen off! Also if your in a quiet area and you turn the side lights on you can hear the lights calibrating before the xenons are even on...you can turn the lights from sides, to off, and each time the same calibrating noise is heard.
