335i Turbo - replacement options

Hello

My 335i waste gates have finally given up, constant boost errors etc.

So I've bitten the bullet and started to strip the car down ready for turbo removal. In terms of turbo options, so far i have identified:

- New stock replacement units - prices seem to range from £1000/1200
- Re con my units - prices range from £600-800, some companies don't want to touch the waste gates.
- Buy two turbo cartridges (from uk vendor) + refurb the waste gate myself (ebay kit), prob endup spending £500/600
- Buy ebay turbo cartridges - £250/300
- Buy used turbos from breakers with around 60k miles on £400

The car is high mileage (170k) so i dont want to be spending unnecessary money on the car, however i use the car daily so i dont want to be looking at swapping them again in 12months.

A lot of the UK turbo shops just want to offer new units & dont talk positively about refurb units, also when i mentioned ebay waste gate kits i got lots of comments about poor materials etc.

Im assuming the ebay cartridges are China supply, so no idea on quality.

Basically i've no idea which way to turn (other than the new unit option).

Suggestions / recommendations / experiences welcome.

Cheers

James

You've got another option which also includes the wastegate upgrade.

PMP rebuild the wastegates for a reasonable amount. You could maybe ship them there and have them rebuild them and rebuild the turbos and fit back yourself? I think they use vargas uprated wastegate kit.

Chinese turbos are currently gaining some rave reviews from UK and US users.
