OFHG

Gonna DIY my ofhg today and was wondering if you guys prefer the OEM gasket or some aftermarket brands. A local euro parts store near me carries a hudson gasket, kinda scared to buy that one lol.

There is a thread on here with some notorious breakdowns with some gaskets, but at the time I remember many of us weren't sure if it was getting torqued down to spec (or overtorqued).

I used the BMW OE and it was fine. I would say go with OE simply because the part isn't that expensive to begin with (I think $15 for BMW Brand), so why risk something for $6-7? OE is the same as BMW brand, so that's your slightly cheaper option as well made by the same manufacturer.

Ehhh the genuine BMW is 50$ I believe.

OP when I bought mines, I went with Victor Reinz for the housing gasket and genuine BMW for the oil cooler one since the non BMW ones had bad reviews.

I got them on FCP euro.

Thanks for the input, I just bit the bullet and went OEM for the OFHG for 42 from the stealership for peace of mind. lol then went aftermarket for the oil cooler gasket since its easier to replace if it messes up and starts to leak. we'll see how it goes. Any idea of how long this will take for the repair? And the torque specs for the bolts on the housing?

I actually got the genuine BMW one from ECS and it was $28. Looks good but it will definitely be leaking in the next 30k to 50k miles.
However I heard the $15 aftermarket ones last longer since they use different compounds for the material.

Well, you're right, it was the generic that was $12-15; but looks like I did buy BMW branded for just over $22. FCP has it now for $28 for BMW branded.
