Service Due! (Wish me luck)

Well, I can't put off the service any longer. I so dread getting the new software update (I assume that's automatic when getting routine service?) because of all the complaints regarding turbo lag. I'm sure it needs an oil change, not sure what else. It has 8000 miles on it. I think the service light is coming on because I stored it through the winter and it may be more time based than mileage based. Again, not sure.

I don't suppose anyone has had luck telling the service dept to not bother upgrading the software? I'm very intimidated by the possibility of getting the turbo lag issue. I really think I'll go ballistic and want to sell the car if the newest software doesn't maintain the low RPM boost.

Thoughts?

I read somewhere on the forum that they do not update your software automatically, you have to have and issue which may be solved by a software upgrade. I think BMW made a rule about this. I'm sure someone with more knowledge will chime in soon.

Tell them you don't want it, it's as simple as that.

Don't even bother telling them not to... they won't do it anyway. As mentioned, they only update if you complain of a problem that the software update addresses. Getting them to update it is almost like pulling teeth, as it requires a significant amount of time with the tech.

The SA will tell you everything they are going to do at the beginning of your appointment. I never say things like "don't update the software", etc. as it implies I know a bit too much. I DO say "don't wash it!"

HermesRider is correct - they only update if you complain of a problem that the software update addresses. I just had my low mileage annual oil change yesterday and no software update was done. oh well, i didn't want the update anyway. good luck!

don't even bother say anything about program. they need your permission before they do. they can't just do it. if you have, lets say navigation problem or something, and they will diagnose it and see if it requires program update. if it does, they will contact you and let you know before hey go ahead and do it. samething goes for all required service bulletin issues. they will ask you first before they do it. if you don't really want to update the system, just shut up and when they bring it up just say no politely...
