Question Alloys sticking to hubs

A friend of mine has an E46 and had to call roadside assistance due to a flat because he could not get his tire off the hub. I guess his wheels got stuck to the hub and no matter what he did, he couldn't get it off. Since I plan to change between winter and summer tires, I did some research and found a product from Kleen Wheels advertised in "Bavarian autosport" magazine. This product is a non-metalic disc which mounts between the wheels and the BMW's hubs to prevent the wheels from sticking to the hubs due to corrosion. (It is not the product intended to prevent wheel dust from getting into the wheels.) Here is a link to the product...
http://www.kleenwheelsincolor.com/kw...0mate_info.htm

Has anyone had experience with this product to recommend it or not?

Thanks in advance.

that should be all that you need. Can you use that pink petroleum jelly as well?

yea, any type of jelly type grease will due fine. I had this same problem on my 330Ci and my MINI cooper S, so on the first rotation i smacked on some jelly and havent had issues. Before i needed Huge rubber mallet to get my wheels off LOL. My e90 is still only 4 months old so i havent taken off the wheels yet.

The grease would definitely work but I bet there's something you could DIY to act like that spacer they're selling. It would be a lot cleaner than the grease and probably wouldn't cost much. You might also be able to paint the mating surface of the wheel to keep it from getting stuck. You'd have to be careful preparing the surface (cleaning and roughing up the wheel) or else the primer and paint won't stick well. Just a couple ideas.

you might not even need to paint. Just roughing up the surface wouldprevent the hub and wheel from sticking. Two ultra-smooth surfaces will always bond together. A little bit of incongruity will keep the two surfaces from sticking.

I have used these on my MINI Cooper S as I had the same problem...the wheel welded to the hub!!! They work absolutly easy and I've never had a problem with wheel removal again. I ordered a set for my 330 xi as I've dumped the run flat wheels. They work very well and are worth the money. They do take some patience when lining up the bolt holes and placing the wheel on....but they do work!!! :rocks:

Anti-seize(the silver looking stuff) works great! Just rub a little bit on the parts between the wheel and rotor that come in contact. This will stop corrosion from causing the wheels to seize

Anti-seize is correct. This is what the factory, and BMW centers use. Grease won't repel grime and dirt as well.

Do regular auto stores like AutoZone and PepBoys carry it?

Yes!

anyplace that sells bolts should sell a brand of it. In an autoparts place you'll probably find in in the same area as threadlock.
