***help please*** crank pulley (harmonic balancer bolts)
Morning guys
I have a 2009 320d (N47) My crank pulley (harmonic balancer) needs replacing - see photo.... I simply cannot undo the bolts... Ive tried but it just spins the engine. tried impact gun no luck Ive been advised to do it in 6th gear (manual) so the engine cant spin The only threat i can find says to lock the engine with an allen key but that was a 335 engine, not my 320d N47.... Any help greatly appreciated Last edited by Wazman999; 03-26-2020 at 03:35 AM.. Reason: TO GET EMAIL UPDATES |

They sell locking pliers with a chain on the end of them that wrap around big round things and hold them in place.
That will work. Maybe some rust penetrant too. |

I am unfamiliar with that engine.
but on most things I would pull the starter a and jam a big pry bar into the flywheel teeth while a friend undid the bolts. |

Kroil oil - soak them for 24 hours
Torch - yellow gas... Also, I would not replace them with OEM bolts. You can get SS bolts to do the job. You just need the thread count The problem is that e-Torx strip very quickly. So, you will need back up plan for sure. Irwin makes a good stripped bolt kit. IRWIN Bolt Extractor Set, 5-Piece (394002) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000QW6K8I..._admFEb9P4QWJK Or find a small cutting tool for a dremmel you can get in there and sheer the bolt heads off. Once the flywheel is off, you can take the remaining bolt out with a set of lock pliers. |
