Both my N52 and N55 get fresh oil every 5000km.

Just picked "some" up when it was on sale for $16/jug. LOL
Where did you find it for $16/jug? Cheapest I can find is CT on sale for $32.99.
I also plan on switching from Castrol 0w40 to Pennzoil 5W40 as it is easy and cheap to acquire.

Was on sale a couple months ago for $26/jug, then there is a $10 rebate per jug up to four jugs.

Guys, oil thickness is not exactly rocket science, check product data sheets. 5w-40 is still a bit thicker at 100celsius than 0w-40, and will shear down or stay thicker for a bit longer at high temperatures...
So goes for 5w-30 versus 0w-30.

Oil is pretty much black after you drive off after oil change.. doesn't mean it's not doing it's job

there actually shouldnt be accumulation of sludge or anything in the cooler. If anything, its more likely to begin in the PCV area.

I read that the diesel oil does not have a satisfactory additive package for GDIs and therefore should NOT be used in N54s etc.

Check it out, not totally sure.

Looks like the problem is more related to emissions....not engine lubrication.

Man, you guys like spending money, huh? Oil changes every 5000 km?? I'm driving 15-20k miles a year, no way I'm changing the oil that often.

I've used Motul Xcess 8100 5w40 since I got the car, try to change the oil every 8-10k miles or so. I think I went 10k this last time. I'd say anything sooner than the 15k the car wants is good enough.

Depends how you drive the car. Some people are very hard on their cars very often and/or track them too. I'd much rather be a little cautious with not going too long on oil changes than have my engine take a crap sooner because I wanted to squeeze every mile out of my oil.

I do, my car was on BMW oil for most of its life, when I purchased it I tried Liqui-Moly Molygen and that stuff sucked. So I've been running Rotella T-6 (on my 4th change) and my car seems to really like it. But who knows, I change it every 3-5k anyways. I think the youtube guy vehicular diy runs t6 and hes got almost 200k miles on his N54.

Did anything specific happen that made you think so? I'm curious as I've only heard excellent things about LM.

Car ran hotter and burned 2 quarts in 3000 miles, never did that before and since I have been running Rotella. Super weird and I thought I had motor issues but it was just the oil. Car did not like it for some reason. Could have been a bad batch I dunno.
