e92 (316i) swap to n55+8hp
Hello guys, this is my first post ever here... first of all what an awesome forum. <3 Due to weird regulations, Am importing an E92(316i) from UAE to Egypt. The thing is I can't import a 335i due to the engine size, so i'll import the chassis and do a swap. The car community here is limited af, and I have to outsource everything and there is no fabricators here. So, my issue here, am dreaming of an e92 chassis with n55(EWG) and zf 8hp is a MUST for me.. I don't like the 6hp. 1-My question here, is it doable without fabrication work ? 2-Is the 8hp swap gonna be a hustle ? or its interchangeable to some degree with the 6hp? 3-Will I be forced to change the DME and TCM ? or can I use the stock DME ? Am worried its gonna be a hustle and am on a limited budget rn... appreciate the help lads |

Don't know anything about automatics. You can't use your 316i DME on a 335i, you'd have to source the DME for the n55.
Engine swaps and limited budget don't really go together. I'd say from start to finish you're probably looking at $10k USD depending on engine condition + transmission cost, DME and all the plastic parts associated with the N55. You'll probably end up with a core engine and have to come up with the various components, cooling system, hoses, etc yourself. |

Installing anything that doesn't come for that car from the factory, will require fabrication to at least some degree.
I don't think your budget will be as much of an issue as all the other aspects. Where will you be sourcing your N55 engine from? You will need a lot more than just the engine block with the accessories. Definitely doable if you have a donor car and you can just swap everything over, a lot more frustrating without one. Then there is the question on 8HP on E9x chassis, which will require different types of specialists' work (mounting and installing the gearbox, making it fit the center console, software, electric work etc. You can find N55 8HP adapter plates from various places online, but getting the gearbox and the adapter plate will be the smallest of your worries. That said, are you planning to do most of the work yourself or take the car somewhere and let other guys do it? |
