That is truly amazing. Thanks for the link to the video of the lady who did her Porsche in army green. I see they used what appeared to be a standard heat-shrink gun such as is used for electrical system heat-shrink tubing and connectors.

I sure would like to be the guy who figures out how to embed LED lighting elements in an overlay material like that. I suspect that I'll live long enough to see someone do something like that and turn vehicles into rolling expressions of continously changing graphic individualism ---- or rolling advertisements ---- depending upon your viewpoint. It'll give legislators one more thing to regulate under the guise of the distractive nature of it, but still provide much more freedom of expression than is possible now.

Has anyone wondered whether this material is any different from the material 3M used to (still does?) produce for striping and graphics kits on production cars. That technology was used on such vehicles as the '69 Boss 302 Mustang, the hood graphics on Firebirds and Trans-Ams, etc. It did prove to be durable and compared favorably to the paint in finish characteristics.

A quick google search turns up a company in Austin that does this... they focus on more graphic designs on the vinyl, but I'm sure they'd do a solid color, too....

An alternate to expensive wraps

is to use 3M painters tape, I saw on another forum some guys covered an Audi S4 with 3M painters tape and drove it across the country so no stones would mess up the paint. Only downfall is that your car will be Sky Blue (unless you like the color) and you have to take it off in 2 weeks. Well for 2 weeks you will have the coolest car in town.
