m57 pinking, diesel knock ?

Dear Diesel heads,

I have an e90 and an e46 with the m57 4 cylinder diesel engine.
My e46 (2004) (280k km) has a tune I bought it with, I do not know the details of it but you can notice it over the stock tune.
I had this car for a year without any issues after a year it started with this pinking noise (knock) on acceleration around 1500 to 3000 revs, basically when under load. (I can best describe it as a chain being dragged on concrete).
I was thinking fuel system issue and because of the incorrect fueling Im getting bad burn and the poor valves are being raped and they are chiming.
I had the injectors rebuilt as first I was suspecting them being the problem.
However the noise did not go away. Maybe something else in the commonrail fuel system chain?
(no codes BTW, no smoke or oil burn, power is all there, engine is very smooth with no noise on idle and on cruising)

Anyone have any experiance or idea on this ?
I would appriciate any help
Thank you.
