Low Profile Jack
Not sure where to post this, there is no tools section. So here it is.
If you are looking for a low profile jack that will reach the front jack point try the Arcan 2-Ton Low-Profile Model# XL2T. It will reach the front center jack point on an E90 even with sport suspension and on an M3 if you drive the front wheels onto a 2x6 piece of lumber. It's pricey at $229, but it works. I bought mine at northern tool. I don't work for them or have any connection to them but I do like their prices / quality. You can save on shipping by joining their member club. Hope this helps someone. |

the harbor freight low profile jack is just 1/8 of an inch higher but costs $130 less than half the Arcan jack. And it clears a sport model 335i also

https://www.harborfreight.com/3-ton-...nge-64240.html I use the one below but my car is lowered even past my M-Sport suspension so I actually use two jacks. The 1.5 ton race jack to lift up the driver side wheel, then I slide the low profile Harbor Freight jack under the front jack point and go from there. It's a bit annoying, but it works great lol https://www.harborfreight.com/3-ton-...ump-62326.html |

get some low profile ramps. Then you can drive up onto them first to jack up your car. I think mine cost about $50.
my E30 is too low to even get a low-profile jack under the subframe - and on the low profile ramps, it still barely clears the front lip. Normal size ramps are a no-go. |

a stock RWD E90 isn't much higher either.. if your car is lowered you're going to need something low profile. |

I think there was a company that was called Race Ramps (I'm also sure there were others) that used to make these segmented incline ramps that start up ultra low. I want to say the ramps were like 4' long if you bought all the extensions.

How are jack stands safer than having the wheels planted on a flat surface?

But still, why not just buy stands instead of ramps, it's cheaper and as safe unless you're an idiot and fuck up badly I suppose? With stands only you will need a jack for sure but if you're wrenching on your car why wouldn't you have a jack anyways. Plus ramps only with when the wheels are on. So IMO another waste of money. But hey, if you just want to do oil changes and nothing more I suppose it's an option. Just that ramps will limit you at some point if you keep on going and interested in wrenching further than just oil changes. |

But I agree it can be less safe to the process to set it up on all 4 stands. compared to drive on ramps and just jack the rear. |
