Hi
Very occasionally I get a slight puff of blue smoke from the exhaust at startup and I'd like to resolve it. Engine uses next to no oil so perhaps I'm chasing something that isn't a fault. I tested the CCV for vacuum and it holds a vacuum. I can hear the diaphragm moving too if I suck and blow. I pulled the rear pipe for the EGR and it had oil in it. I also pulled the little sensor on the rear of the inlet manifold (map?) And that had oil on it. Guess my question is - is it normal for the EGR valve and MAP sensor to be covered in oil? I think oil is getting into inlet after a while and burning off. No misfires injectors etc all fine. Thanks Dormermike |

Yes normal. You say all is well with your injectors. My only comment is that a puff of smoke on start-up was the first sign I had that I had a leaky injector. It later developed into the usual start-up misfire. Just a thought...

Yeah thanks but it's been doing it since before I had the injectors replaced and its no better or worse now. It is very sporadic. It's not bad either, just a very slight puff. I just hate the thought of my engine smoking at all. Mechanic friend reckons it's the cold start but I don't see how that would make it blue.

Ok so someone in the know has seen a video of the blue smoke and says it's water vapour / condensation. I've been worrying about nothing lmao. Must admit with clean plugs, clean tailpipe (no soot no oil residue) and a working CCV I was wondering what else it could be. Valve stem seals on these engines rarely fail.
