anyone with factory alarm? Few questions:
Hello,
I had a few questions on the factory alarm that I have been having a hard time getting correct answers on. Hopefully someone with the OEM alarm can help 1) The "chirp" sound included with the alarm; is that a beep or the actual horn sound? 2) Is there a shock sensor or does it only go off when you break into the car? 3) If you DIY'ed it, did you have to go to the dealer for installation? 4) If you have Idrive, are there more options that appear that allow you control settings? (like chirp on/off..etc?) I will update this posting with replies and hopefully this thread will help someone else! Thanks skimo |

1) "chirp" comes from the alarm itself, not the horn.
2) There is no shock sensor, only ultrasound detection within the interior. 3) I installed myself without the dealership, but they still had to reprogram it. 4) iDrive and regular computer, there is an option to just flash, flash and chirp, or just chirp I believe. |

If I place a bobble-head inside with a very weak spring, could that be used as a shock sensor? Such that when the car "moves" the bobble head would trigger the ultrasound? (not really going to do this ) |

Shock sensors are prone to false alarms since they are sensitive to air density (which varies with outside temp).
The BMW alarm has tilt sensor and a ultrasonic sensor for the interior. IMO, that is an ideal setup.

Except if you are a pre-wire E93 and you choose to install the alarm after the fact, there is no ultrasonic sensor. So all you get is the tilt sensor, hood pin trigger and interior light trip (door open).

I think there is a diy somewhere for adding a shock sensor to the oem alarm, if you really want one.

I had a shock sensor on all my other cars and it was always more sensitive right around the sensor and didnt work anywhere else. My friends used to love to set it off in high school
