USB Retrofit
Noob here, I've been lurking for awhile but this is my first post.
I've got an 06 325i with professional bluetooth HU. I was wondering if it was possible to retrofit USB to this unit and what would be required. Is my HU capable of USB, or would I need to get a new one? If I need a new HU, could I DIY the coding or would I have to take it to the dealer? I'm going to buy a coding cable soon, but I don't really know what I'm doing yet as far as that goes. EDIT: I realize this question has been asked a million times, but I can't find any threads on pre-LCI professional units. Does it already have the USB out and just need a code + harness, or do I need an LCI unit? And would an LCI unit play nice with the pre-LCI car? did you change your HU? as far as i know, cars made before 2010 does not have bluetooth integrated HU.
if you are still using the original HU, you'll need to check if your HU is running off the MOST ring. if yes, then you'll need to get the retrofit kit and install the hardware. you'll also need to code the car and add the 6FL option to get it working. |

I just bought the car and afaik it's the original HU. It's got dead pixels and everything lol. I am pretty sure it's in MOST because it knows things like average MPG, speed, etc. Would that be a correct assumption?

it appears as though my bluetooth is actually housed in a module in the trunk rather than in the HU given the build date, but if I get a new HU with bluetooth integrated then it will have the USB built in. That way I'll have a unit with a new screen, too.
Will I have to code when installing a newer HU, or will it work out of the box? |

This is the post I was referring to.
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...62&postcount=9 I'm assuming that if it's an early build date, it's ULF? |

I assume that applies to Europe alone. Is that correct? How difficult would it be to install such unit into a 2011 US car with a HiFi system? |

I have been looking at the programming
The programming looks kind of neboulous so far .
It looks like you need new daten files and you may have to change the build date of the car in order for it to accept the new programming . It doesn't seem that straight foward . If anybody has done this on an older car it would be nice if they could verify the procedure. |

Coding can be done remotely by BimmerTech. They can also provide the additional hardware and FSC is the eBay seller cannot do it. |
