Does anyone else have this installed? I installed mine today and its huge. I cannot put back the top "rail" which just encases the 2 tubes you see on top of the upper cone.

what do you mean by rail? You need to push it in. youll see 3 places it slides into. Also, try to stick the metal pipe as far into the intake tube, but dont let the filter sit to far into the pipe.

hahah! nope no gardening happening in -10 weather lol..

I'm pretty sure I pushed it all the way in but I'll double check again this weekend.. thx for the tips all!

Ditch the cowl (leave hvac filter on) and just ziptie the lines together, or if you don't mind it looking a bit messier you can just leave them hanging over the engine cover. I'm convinced the cowl exists to make it impossible to reach the rear intake inlet tubing. Unless you really like the extra plastic, or hate the injector ticking noise, I see no reason to leave that stupid cowl on. My 2c.

It's purpose is mainly water drainage. It directs water off the windshield towards the gutters on each side of the cowl.

Ya I was just trolling the cowl a bit because it's an obnoxious giant piece of plastic, but in all seriousness I've run without it for the better part of a year now with zero issues. The car has sat in torrential multi-day rain, it's been snowed on, washed, etc etc. A bit of water gets on the dme box cover (the black cover, not the actual dme cover), but for the most part it still drains just fine. I believe Terry has been running sans cowl since the day he got his E82, i'm really not too worried about it. I got tired of removing the cowl every time I had to work in the engine bay, so I just ditched it

Unless you have a compelling reason, I would recommend running with it. It is a big plasticy POS, but it will keep moisture away from places it shouln't be, like the DME box.

I understand that concern, and at first it was in the back of my mind, but hear me out on this (and if I'm full of it, let me know). The DME, or any piece of electronics that need to be watertight, have to be 100% water tight. Doesn't matter whether there is a tiny tiny crack, or a giant hole, if moisture can seep in at all the electronics will become compromised. On a very rainy or foggy day when there's tons of moisture in the air, that piece of plastic hanging a few inches above isn't going to protect the DME seal from moisture, the air is too dense with it. The cowl would protect it from a stream of water, but again if the DME box is at all compromised it won't take a stream of water, any moisture in the air will find itself inside the electronics. I don't know if that makes any sense, but there's my logic.

thanks everyone i finally got it!.. i think the instructions said to install the filter closer to the bumper first so thats what i did..But this time, i installed that one last and everything fit better
