Washed it! And figured out the A/C situation. Turns out the best way to get cold A/C even in stop and go traffic on a 90ºF day is to use Auto (which I always use), at the max intensity (bar to the far right, previously had it in the middle). I was used to the old IHKA setup (2006-09) where there were only 3 auto programs. The newer one has 5 and that confused me.

More airflow through the evaporator = cooler air.

However, this does have me thinking. If I swapped in the 800W 335d/335is fan, would that improve airflow in traffic at all and give better A/C performance?
My car has the PPK on it from the factory, but it’s not the PPK2, so as I understand it I still have the 650W fan.

On the 2011 xDrive @ 70k miles

-New front strut assemblies (including springs, mounts, hardware) - OE/Genuine
-New Trans Filter & Fluid

Major improvement with new front assemblies. The intermittent front end knock when turning, vibration at highway speeds and poor handling on bad roads are gone. Pleasantly surprised at the huge improvement given none of the struts seemed to be leaking. Also wondering what BMW changed mid-production after 03/2010 on the xDrive models since the struts and upper mounts have new part numbers after that date.

Trans was shifting well, but wanted to get ahead of changing the fluid given age and it was the last fluid I had to change on the car to get it back on a schedule. Shifting smoother and feels great!

Now onto the next thing on the list...

I did not run often the E91 N54, I did maybe 80km since the swap, and tonight I got my 1st guy reaching me fast on the street saying '' man, did you swap this wagon N54 ??!!!''

I said yeah, tf you know your engines !

''dude sick car, sick sound man !''

a well educated fellow. My 328 look stock, I still even had the 328xi badge and stock wheels.

this is gold for a car guy

Decided to do the evaporator myself, since the mechanic said he wouldn't have time in the next 2-3 weeks..
Wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. The most time consuming part was when the new evap came and I saw that the pipe bends were pretty far off from original. Had to be careful while bending them so that welds don't crack. All in all DIY-able, 6/10 in difficulty. Timewise probably around 9h, but I split it in two days 4-5h each.
Would recommend anyone who is thinking about doing it themselves! Great way to better know your car.

Oh yeah, managed to break off the head of the bleeding screw and nothing is working for the next few days so i had to DIY that too...

Nice! What were your symptoms? I’m assuming you went with an aftermarket evap, what brand?

The N52 528i decided to leak out a good 2 liters of coolant. Yet I can’t find the leak. I think I’ll need to take it to have it pressure tested somewhere… No dried residue anywhere that I can se.

Bonnet and boot struts

40 euro on Amazon for a set it was dumb simple, just take a flathead screwdriver to the back of the clips to release the struts.

No more bucket holding my bonnet open for oil checks 😅

Today I swapped out the stock halogen headlightts for a set of LED projetors from BayOptiks.com

Since the lenses on the stock ones were cloudy and had been polished at least once already they needed to be replaced, and this is a total upgrade. Looks mostly stock, but now I have nice bright DRLs!

With this I think I'm done with changes for a while, now back to our regularly scheduled maintenance...

This is great. I need a evap replacement but have never attempt to do it myself thinking it was a +20 hours DIY.

Could you expand on what you said about bending the pipes?
Do one needs to have any special A/C tool to put the new evap in place or is it a "plug and play" procedure? I thought it was the latter.

328 got exhaust tips. Exact same specs as BMW PE. Much cheaper, and I get to keep my quiet cabin

Only problem is now they stick out like a sore thumb. Thinking polished lug nuts and dual slats with chrome surround to break it up. Undecided. Thoughts?

Also added the old M3 style mirror caps from the 330. I think I might like the OEM ones more. If the M3 ones were paint matched though..

Took it out to our NM BMWCCA First Sunday brunch, met a guy with a gorgeous LCI e91 blue water metallic and fox red interior, only down side was it was auto or I’d be jelly.

I’ll be helping him do a match amp and doing some DSP tuning, guy also has a r53 so really good taste.

Well the first was that the system would hold freon for like 5 days and then there would be no cold air blowing. Also there was a specific smell from the vents in the first 5-10 seconds (If you take off the caps where you would fill it with freon, in the engine compartment, and smell them, that's the same smell.) After some google-ing I found out the the evap core is a pretty common part to fail. Also, looked in the engine bay with an UV lamp for leaks.

The evap was some cheap polish brand.

And to answer Nando_e90 question, mostly did it using my hands and some wood pieces. It should be plug and play if you don't cheap out like I did!

If you are gonna do it, just buy some ziplock bags and a marker, label everything and watch some videos about it on Youtube. Good luck guys!
