I looked into this and it seems that the entire unit comes as one piece for the steptronic assembly.

If the shifter stalk is shortened it looks as if the shifter belonged there since it fits right in. Once you have this shifter in place, you'll never want to get rid of it anyway and nobody would ever know the difference or that the vehicle didn't come with the shifter.

My question would be that if I cut the stalk down an inch and then want to go back to stock for selling the car sometime in the future would I be able to get a replacement stalk or no?

One other question for Rodger:

In your M Shifter Retrofit Kit the details state -

'This Kit has the ability to change how bright the shifter LEDs illuminate. Without this, the LEDs are VERY bright and distract during night time driving.'

Is that necessary for this shift retrofit and/or is that feature already included?

This is not necessary for the DCT kit as it uses the stock brightness of the shifter. ONLY the M shifter kits have the ability to change the brightness.

Haven't even though about the price yet. Since this is a place to discuss things let's ask the forum... what does everyone think a fair price would be?

Guess it all depends on how good of a deal you get on the shifter itself - I'm assuming it is the most expensive part?

manufacturing the circuit boards is the most expensive part actually. The new ones I have now are actually produced by a company and about half the size of the prototype. keep in mind it took around 6 weeks to finalize this with endless hours designing circuit boards

I'm sure the non-reoccuring engineering charges/time weren't cheap to get a functional/quality part

OK, say we get 10 people, could you go down as far as $300?

or even lower?

Kinda up to you, as you know what your pricing is and how much profit margin you need.

Name a price and I guess we can either go with it, or not

Knowing the price ahead of time will eliminate any 'window shoppers' names being put on list and all will know up front...

I can't find the part number on RealOEM but to finish this knob off it would be nice to install this trim:

EDIT: does exist but for now only in europe. Part# is 51169141518 for the E9x models for this plate. The qestion now is if the plate fits inside the OEM steptronic place and if it is able to function with the shifter. Essentially, you need the steptronic baseplate to make the shifter light up.
