My e92 bites the dust. Died on the highway
As it turns out, I was driving on the freeway when the iDrive screen started flickering. I thought it was just me and continued driving. Then, what had happened was that the entire car just restarted. I noticed it right away because the idrive said BMW again. This happened about twice. The first time I had lost a little power, but the second time, it just shut off completely. I had enough momentum to cut everyone off and get to the right side of the highway.
First thing I had noticed was the gauge was frozen and all electrical were done, frozen, and unresponsive. They key won't come out of the ignition (the one time I actually put it in). And, even hazard and door unlock buttons didn't work. I called my first tow truck and will get it taken to a shop that I know, and will see what I can do. Prior to this, I got an email from a dealership about a recall needing to be done. I don't believe it is related?? But, who knows. Maybe it is. Sigh...

So, turns out there is a battery positive cable recall. Only stupid thing is, I wish it had been done before.

Good to know Mike! I guess it all lines up with the recall in place. I will investigate more! Did your friend say anything else about it once he sent it in?

It was indeed the positive battery terminal recall. I had the shop I towed to just fix it for $100. It would have costed just as much to send it to BMW.

Same thing happened on my 328i on the highway at 1AM. Almost shat myself as the car went totally dead, zero power to anything while driving at 70mph. Instinctively I clutched in and slowly made my way to the shoulder and then clutched out. The car came alive due to that, only to get home and once I powered down, it was totally dead again.
Yup, battery cable recall was not performed on my car... Luckily I managed to get it started by wiggling the cable behind the glovebox and drove it to BMW.
