Those amazon.com code readers are basic OBD2 code readers. They can't read or clear any of the hidden or shadow codes that the BT tool can.
The BT tool is more like a BMW GT1 than an OBD scanner. |

Is it possible that new codes are created in new updates of the engine software, and if so - will the BT tool detect those, as well?

Bump
Does the Autel MaxiScan OBDII scanner work for a new 2011 BMW E90 with comfort access smart key. I just push to start the car and dont have an ignition to put they key in. |

I picked up a Autel MaxiScan to verify what an independent shop told me I needed to have done. It read the codes fine and confirmed I needed to replace my pre-cat O2 sensors. I changed them myself and try to reset the code using the Autel, and it did not work.

Thank you! I'm going to have to look into the BT Tool. I changed my O2 sensors this weekend and, could not reset the light. However, it looks like I didn't need to because it went off on its own when I was driving around this weekend.

I have the Bavarian Technic Pro model which is good if you need to check other things besides generic OBD codes. The BT is good if you need to reset the SRS warning (from removing the seat), or t/shoot your DSC or Transmission, etc.
On the other hand, this little Torque Pro for my Android phone is very convenient to check generic OBD codes on many different makes. (My BT is BMW specific). It wirelessly pairs through bluetooth and connects with the car incredibly quickly. You can see the gauge set, OBD readiness for smog testing, reset faults, etc. And then you can text message the readouts or email it straight from your phone. Pretty cool in concept anyways. I actually got it initially to check on the individual cells for my 380V battery pack in my Nissan LEAF. Techie guys on the forum actually develop their own Android Apps to help analyze the LEAF's electronics!
